Guest guest
Mara, Thanks for your email. Yes, that was me earlier. I had NO stool for the first entire month of SCD. But no pain, bloating only during my period, and I was passing gas and some sort of light brown liquidy stuff (pus? die-off?) every day so I didn't feel like there was an obstruction or anything. Then, on May 3rd (just checked my food journal, and I started SCD on March 30), I FINALLY had a hard stool. It was really hard, but in small balls, and came out easily. After that, I started have stools about 3 times a week, and this last week I had stools almost everyday -- always very hard little " poop balls " as I call them. But I was feeling pretty good, because even though I know it was close to constipation, it was coming so regularly, and my body's digestion keeps changing (for the better, I hope), I figured it would soften up and become better formed in time. But after today I'm concerned. I didn't have a stool yesterday, but you're right that this looked like something more than just a skipped day's worth of stool And yes, I am also the one that can't tolerate yogurt right now, which is particularly bothersome since from all I'm reading it seems like yogurt would be helping me heal faster. Do you think that my intolerance to yogurt has something to do with the constipation? I tried peanut butter once early on, and got so sick that I decided to stay off nuts for awhile, but now I'm wondering if I should start with almond nut flour muffins. I just noticed that was a part of the constipation protocol. I guess I thought some listserve members had said that nut flour actually INCREASED their constipation, but it is in the protocol, so maybe I should try it. I've been reluctant to do the prunes or prune juice, because in one of the instructions I read that you should not do the prune nectar if your colon is inflamed. Since I have UC and still experience symptoms (some blood, still lots of gas), I assume my colon is still inflamed. But I'm thinking that a few stewed-prunes might not hurt. And I was looking at the beet recipes too. Do you, or anyone know, would all the cheddar and swiss cheese I'm eating aggravate constipation? I also eat a lot of bananas and eggs. I eat a lot of cooked carrots, spinach and turkey too, but I can't imagine they would aggravate C. Finally, I wonder about yeast. I don't really have any reason to believe I have yeast, but how does one know? Thank you so much for your answer, and I'd love to hear any more wisdom you might have to share! For some other people their constipation may worsen for a short period. This may be due in part to the toxins that the starving microbes are releasing as they die.If there is a large amount of toxin release (from a large overgrowth of harmful microbes) and/or if the body has trouble detoxifying, constipation may occur or worsen. > Also, I just introduced apple sauce into my diet 2 days ago. On the contrary, it seems like the apple sauce was helpful -got things moving at last - that sounds like more than twodays backup.Mara------------------------------------
Guest guest
Hi Ann: I also have irregular stools. Sometimes I do feel constipated. The stewed prunes do not aggravate me and usually produce a stool. I haven't tried the nectar yet. If you try the beet method, please let me know how that worked for you. Pecan butter is supposed to be more easily tolerated than almond, peanut, or cashew butters. I used pecan butter (homemade as I couldn't find any storebought) in the nut butter brownies on pecanbread and they were so delicious. So, you might want to try it first. Upon eating almond or peanut butter, I would immediately have bloating and a little pain. It took 3 days for the pecan butter to aggravate me, but I think I was eating too much of it. The nut butters do seem to aggravate my C, but most everything advanced does. I too would like to know if cheese and bananas aggravate C. I always heard they did but then again, I read that bananas can alleviate C too. So I'm unsure. It might be an individual thing. However hard it was to pass, better out than in, no? Also it's a good signthat your frequency is increasing.Have you tried epsom salt baths to help youdetox?Myself, I'd be tempted to do a warm water enema to help clear out the toxins. When I first joined therewas some discussion about it, but no one has talkedabout it lately. > And yes, I am also> the one that can't tolerate yogurt right now, which is particularly> bothersome since from all I'm reading it seems like yogurt would be helping> me heal faster. Do you think that my intolerance to yogurt has something to > do with the constipation?I think it possibly had something to do with the fact thatyour body had a hard time detoxifying. In some people, early on, yogurt can exacerbate die-off symptoms, and if your body was already overloaded on that end and unableto handle the toxic load, the yogurt might have been too muchfor you to handle at that point. But that's just a hypothesis. Someone elsemore experienced might have a better working model. > I tried peanut butter once early on, and got so sick that I decided to stay> off nuts for awhile, but now I'm wondering if I should start with almond nut> flour muffins. Well, peanut butter can be quite challenging, digestion-wise. Almondbutter is a whole different thing. I also was fine withcashew butter and cashew/macadamia butter early on,but not everyone is. > I just noticed that was a part of the constipation> protocol. And I was looking at the> beet recipes too.Elaine has that down for introductory protocol for people with severe C - implying inflammation, I would imagine.Anyway, reactions, as we all have learned, are individual. So it might work for you. > Finally, I wonder about yeast. I don't really have any reason to believe I> have yeast, but how does one know?Look up yeast symptoms and see if they pertain toyour symptoms. But be careful there. I spent about a month or so thinking I had yeast, when really I wasexperiencing the three month flare. (But no one on listwas discussing the 3 month flare, so I didn't know aboutit.) It's very easy to get confused, because there is usually an overlap in these symptom sets. Mara------------------------------------

Guest guest
Hope things get better for you, Ann. When I read your list of foods, I wondered if you have tried removing cheese from your diet. I'm finally eating a little DCCC, but I haven't tested any other cheese yet. Eventually acidophilus might help, but I am on very tiny amounts and I'm not doing yogurt. I had a very rough reaction to the Kirkman's acidophilus last week when I became too impatient and took 1 capsule a day for three days. I stopped completely for a week, and I started back today with 1/4 capsule. I was doing quite well on1/3 of a capsule every two or three days--so it's back to testing. :-) The only time I had C was at the beginning of the diet and I used stewed prunes two or three times, so my experience has been different than yours. I know everyone is different. Finding our way through the maze is quite a journey! Guest guest
Thank you everyone for your experiences. This is SO helpful. At the moment I added nut-flour muffins (one a day), and beets to my diet. We'll see how that goes, and after a few days, if things don't improve, I'll add the prunes. Also, I'm cutting way back on the cheese. I really was using cheese as my main portable food (taking it to work for lunch or snacks), so that will have to change. I'm also confused about bananas -- I've heard both that they cause C, and that they cause D. I'm not going to cut them out completely, but may go a little slower with them. Thank you again all for your advice, and if you have more ideas, let me know! Ann On Tue, May 27, 2008 at 10:57 AM, Wizop Marilyn L. Guest guest
Hi Yana, Everyone is different--see my signature. I use Kirkman's non-dairy acidophilus. If you are feeling well, perhaps you won't have any trouble increasing the dosage. I"m glad you can take 1 capsule daily. These are the symptoms which I get--very dark stool, sometimes nausea, sometimes depression. My body is very toxic, so I go through a lot of detox and it's very difficult (my detoxification system is compromised because of the illnesses I have). all the best, Louise MCS, ME/CFS, FM--severely ill since 1973 food sensitivities and candida scd--Feb. 25/08 Vancouver Island, BC, Canada -----Original Message-----From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ]On Behalf Of Yana JelevaSent: Wednesday, May 28, 2008 3:13 AMTo: BTVC-SCD Subject: Re: Re: Stool softener?
