The trust carries forward the vision and mission of AHF. We in AHF India Cares enable people living with HIV and AIDS to gain access to health care services free of cost. AHF India Cares HIV Testing Initiative Ehsäs is a unique HIV testing initiative of AIDS Healthcare Foundation India Cares. This initiative employs cutting-edge technology to conduct rapid testing using 60 seconds test kits with pre- and post-test counselling. The initiative intends to create awareness of the HIV epidemic among the general population in India, especially among vulnerable population through extensive community outreach and appropriate follow up and treatment. This is an extension of AIDS Healthcare Foundation's global initiative to test 2 million people this year around the world. Why: There is a critical need to bring HIV/AIDS testing and treatment services to India's population. In New Delhi, in particular, the number of AIDS cases has been increasing since 2000, despite the provision of VCTC centers and ICTC centers and a drop in the country's national estimate of HIV/AIDS cases. This initiative makes an attempt to reach those areas where awareness among the population is less; the risk factors are high and testing and treatment facilities are either non-existent or not accessible. How: Along with the provision of the state of the art mobile testing unit and rapid 60 second testing (for the first time in India), this initiative involves partnership with various community organizations, state level and district level positive networks, youth groups, health groups, CATA members and many others who work at the grass root level and are involved in community awareness and mobilization for HIV testing, treatment, care and support. Where: This initiative will be conducted at various locations which include Industrial pockets, University Campus, Trade Fairs, Interstate Bus Terminal, Railway Stations, Truck stops, Maternity Care Homes, Slum Clusters in Delhi and the NCR region.
