Dr. Radhika Ramasubban is a sociologist and social historian, who has worked in the areas of science and technology policy; history of public health; rural water supply- sanitation-health linkages as a basis for infrastructure planning; urban health processes and behaviours; and, more recently, women's reproductive health, sexuality and HIV/AIDS. While India has been the principal focus in all these studies, she has, variously, directed and been part of cross-country studies, particularly in the fields of rural water supply, women's health, and the politics of sexuality. She has published widely - books, chapters in edited books, papers in academic journals, and popular articles and books - and some of her work – notably in the water sector - has also resulted in major policy outcomes. Dr. Ramasubban has been on the teaching and research faculty of leading academic institutions in India and abroad (notably University of Sussex, Bombay University); visiting professor and lecturer in several universities abroad (notably Harvard University, Universities of London and Oslo); and advisor and consultant to the Government of India and to international agencies and international research coalitions (notably the World Bank, WHO, ILO) in her fields of expertise. At the grassroots, she has been an environmental activist in Mumbai working with slum dwellers for infrastructural improvements within slums, and on citizen-led projects for the conservation of public spaces. Until recently she was Director of the Centre for Social and Technological Change, Mumbai, an independent policy-oriented social science research group that she helped co-found. Currently, she works part-time with the CSTC as Senior Fellow and is a free lance consultant and writer. You may contact Dr. Radhika Ramasubban by e-mail: soctec@...
