Guest guest
I don't know if I've found proper DCCC yet or not. Here are the two alternatives I've come up with: Organic Meadow Low Fat Pressed Cottage Cheese 0.5% M.G., Carb 3 g Natural Pastures Fresh Curds unripened pasteurized 35% M.G. I don't know the Carb amount these curds are so dry I thought they might be okay, but I guess they aren't I live on Vancouver Island, and so far I haven't found anyone else here to ask questions of. Guest guest
I'm sorry Louise but that's all I know. I think it's not supposed to look like brick cheese, but I'm not sure what that means. Good luck finding someone on the island. Marilyn lives about 75 miles or so East of me (I'm right outside of Baton Rouge, Lousiana (LA) and she's in New Orleans, LA) but I don't know anyone else in LA that is on SCD. New Orleans is kind of far to drive, but I do plan on going down there and meeting her in person and maybe she can give me some SCD tips!!! Be nice if someone would start an SCD friend finder website. I'd sign up and hopefully that would encourage others in my area to join. Misty Kimble, LACDSCD - Jan 5 08Louise wrote: Thanks, Misty. I keep getting confused about DCCC, and I guess I have yet to see the proper kind. Is the main requirement that the carb count is 0? I know that no milk is added after fermentation. Louise . Guest guest
Hi Louise. Do any stores on Vancouver Island sell Western Creamery products? Western makes DCCC, which it sells in plastic packages (not tubs), labelled Pressed Dry Cottage Cheese. Note that the word " dry " must be included on the label, as Western also sells packages labelled " pressed cottage cheese, " which are not SCD-legal. If you go to the website http://www.westerncreamery.com/en/products.html you can select pressed cottage cheeses and see the images of the packages of the different versions. The cheese looks like small curd cottage cheese, without any liquid, or like coarse cream cheese. Out of curiosity, I have just submitted a query at the Western Creamery website, asking about stores on Vancouver Island that sell Western Pressed Dry Cottage Cheese. I'll forward any reply I receive to you. I had previously submitted a query about stores in my neighbourhood that sell this product, and I was pleased to learn I had several options. The other brand that was recommended to me, but which I have never been able to locate, is Mihadrin DCCC. Mihadrin cheeses are Kosher, and are presumably sold in stores that have separate cases for Kosher dairy products. I have checked a few stores that have Kosher dairy cases, and I have found some Mihadrin products, but I have yet to find DCCC, or anything with a similar name, in those cases. Hope this helps. I wonder how many Canadians are on this list. I know that there are several people following SCD in the Toronto area, but not necessarily members of this list. Two of them are Jodi Bager and Lass, the authors of the Grain Free Gourmet cookbooks. Ellen " Louise " wrote: > Thanks, Misty. Guest guest
Hi Ellen, Thank you muchly. If you notice, I also wrote Western Creamery today, too. I mentioned it in my email about Jodi Bager. " She said their granola is sold in . She doesn't know where I can get DCCC and told me to write Western Creamery. I had just written that company earlier today. " It won't hurt that we both wrote them. I was at two stores today and neither carry Western Creamery. I will likely have to get someone to hunt in for me, maybe at Save On. I ran into a Lucerne today at Safeway. Apparently in Winnipeg they are using Lucerne. But the kind here that is called dry is 2 gm carb. thanks a lot for the encouragement, Louise Re: DCCC Hi Louise. The Vancouver group told me that we don't need 0 carbbut I'm sure that you folks are adamant that we do. So far, I've found:Organic Meadows: 1% carb + 0.5 MFLucerne: 1% carb + 0.5 MF [i think I saw one for 0.4 MF]Island Farms: 1% carb + 0.3 MF (someone told me about)I think the Vancouver and Winnipeg folks are mostly using Lucerne. One question that has come up is why does DCCC needto be 0 carb when other legal products have higher carbcount. Is it the lactose factor?I feel as if I should be able to put my finger on the referencewhich says that we have to have 0 carb, but I can't seem to,so if you could send me that, maybe I can send it on to thefolks who tell me we don't need 0 carb. ;-)thanks,Louise------------------------------------
