Hi Ladies!

I hope you don't mind my responding like this so the digests don't get too

congested.

Bobbie, thank you for the teeth-grinding feedback. I suspected it was a

sensory thing because she would stop if we rubbed her feet, back, tickled

her, or just stimulated her some other way. When it really bothers me is in

the car as I can't distract her then and it's sooo loud! It can't be good

for those teeth! It seems to have increased since we've gotten the aids.

I'm not sure it's related to that or more that she just wants to communicate

something to us now and realizes that's one way to get our attention. I've

also noticed an increase in the occasional head banging, this mostly when

she's frustrated. The aids don't seem to be working at all, so on to the

next step and perhaps that will make a difference.

Barbara, you may want to check out the post on CIFAMILYegroups. They

all have lots of interesting information on all the different makes and are

happy to answer questions. Also, the individual manufacturers have their

own sites, look up Clarion, Medel, Nucleus. Hope I haven't missed any. We're

just investigating as well and it's hard to weed through all the advertising

hype. They all promise the world. I don't know how you actually make a

decision on these. Probably has something to do with the implant site

you're working with and how familiar they are with each brand. I also see

that some have only one piece that attaches to the head, some two, Some

mics are more omni directional than others, some body processors in cases of

various materials, most seem to be coming out with the Behind-the-Ear

processors. Good Luck! When you finally decide, if you do go that route,

I'd love to know how you decided. I'm still in the dark.

, we used the Phonic Ear Solaris that is a combination FM-hearing aid.

Because has one malformed ear, she could not wear the BTE aids. She

has had no luck to date with them, even with the power transducers. But you

may have great luck with them. Her audi seems to think she may be one of

the few children with no residual hearing. Someone else told me that she

may not be responding because she just hasn't learned to listed yet. But

the volume this aid puts out, don't know how she could not hear it if she

was able.

Pricilla, I would love more info on the Impact aids. Do they have something

other than a BTE model though? We cannot use that as has a malformed

Pinna. Thanks!

Elaine, do you still cue to Jake now that he has the CI? Does your s.

therapist support you in this or do they want you to not use gesturing with

him. Will he or does he need a transliterator in school? I'm sorry, you

may have posted all this before and I just missed it. How long did it take

and how on earth did you become fluent at it? By the time I get half a word

cued, 's looking elsewhere! It's a good ting that " slow is beautiful "

to children, because I'm going to be that way for quite some time! Thanks

much! Laurie
