Guest guest
I was placed on a Do Not Rent To list over 10 years ago. The reason was because at the time, my then teenage daughter was living with me and causing all kinds of problems with the neighbors and office staff. I was a very good tenant. Paid my rent on time, sometimes double paying. My daughter at the time didn't really live with me. She would just come around and cause problems. Well, one night there was a hurricane. Hurricane Fran. I'm sure many of you have heard of it. Well she knocked the power out in our city. Our apartment had no electricity for a little over a week, so we used candles for light. One night, my daughter knocked over the candle and our apartment caught on fire. I waited in the smoke damaged apartment for a month for the landlord to see about taking care of the damages. In the meantime my little boy, then 4yrs. old, and I were getting sick. I applied for FEMA to help us out. I pleaded with the landlord to either put us in another apartment or repair the damages. I was even willing to help out with the money. But, the landlord said they wanted $5,000 in damages before they would do anything. Then, I did a stupid thing. I decided that if they weren't going to do something, I'd quit paying rent. They took me to court. I paid the rent. The judge said I didn't have to pay for damages, since FEMA had already given me the money and I repaired the damages myself. That made the landlord mad, so they put me on the Do Not Rent To List. I am thinking that this is the landlord that did it. They were the only ones I had had trouble with as far as I knew. My problem is, now I am a middle-aged woman who's kids are grown and out of the house with kids of their own, and I still can't get an apartment. Is it fair to penalize a person for life for something they had no control over? I don't need the apartment now. But, who knows? I may someday... Love and blessings, Val The residual attributes that we pass down to our children may not be in our genes... but in our souls.
Guest guest
I contradicted myself in that post. I said my daughter was living with me and then I said she didn't live with me. If I'm not mistaken I think she was semi-living with me. In other words, she lived with me when she wasn't running away and running' the streets. I am so thankful she finally grew up. She's so much better now. And we are very close. She'll never know why I haven't been able to find a place of my own since then, and I'm not going to tell her.
