Guest guest
I’m not sure how typical my experience is, but I havenever experienced a die-off period as some do. I have been a sugarholic, andthen dived directly into SCD. My biggest problem is just the temptation of agood chocolate pastry, and the inconvenience of cooking. I do go through acranky period for about a week or 2, but I find that once all the illegal foodis out of my system, all negative symptoms disappear. Then, I findmy energy level is actually improved from a SAD diet, and my mood is leveledout. What may be different for me is that my CD symptoms trend towardconstipation, and not D. I also go heavy on the yogurt at first. Maybe you cando probiotics? -MarkCD 07SCD strict since 4/08From:BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of nd PorrasSent: Tuesday, June 10, 2008 10:20 AMTo: btvc-scdSubject: 3-month die-off? Dear listmates, Well, I've been on the SCD for a little more than 10 weeksnow. So I'm getting nervous about the probable upcoming 3-monthdie-off. Would any of you who have experienced it be willing to shareyour experience? How long does it last? What are thesymptoms? Are there cases in which people DON'T experience the 3-monthdie-off? One of my problems has been intolerance of the yogurt. Will the fact that I haven't been eating much yogurt for the first 10 weeks ofSCD affect the die-off -- perhaps my die-off will be a little later than 3months? Also, I've heard that charcoal pills (?) help with die-offsymptoms. What kind of charcoal do you use exactly, and where could I buyit? Guest guest
Hi Ann, Please don't stress about it. That's not going to help you at all. Some people don't have a 3-month flare. didn't. I didn't tell him about it either. All he knew going in was that we were going to do this really strict diet to try and help him and there were a lot of people that it had worked for. I tried to get him to read the book but he wasn't interested so I did my best to explain the science behind the diet to him. Anyway, he did very well from the beginning. He had good days and bad days, of course, but even the bad days weren't as bad as he'd been pre-SCD. He had a lot of gas from time to time for the first few months but all-in-all he did very, very well. It's difficult to say if or how whether you've eaten yogurt or not will affect the timing if you do happen to have a 3-month flare. Everyone is very, very different. Elaine said some could possibly have a recurrence of symptoms at around 3 months. It's certainly not a given or a certainty that you will. And the symptoms vary widely from person to person as does the severity and duration of the symptoms. Please don't stress about it. Just keep doing what you're doing and think positively. About the charcoal, I think it's called activated charcoal but hopefully someone else will answer on how to take it and where to find it. Guest guest
Ann, I didn't have any die off symptoms. I'm using the SCD for Crohn's so maybe there's a difference there? Or maybe not...
