I took a picture of Shelby, the neighborhood dog. I'm going to miss her so much. She's such a good dog and she thinks she belongs to us. Always laying on our porch and waiting to be fed. I wish I could take her with us, but it's not possible. I sure hope she doesn't starve to death, all the neighbors assume that she belongs to us because she's always here.

Love and blessings,

Val

Hi Val,..........make a flyer and get someone to pass it around about Shelby. At least you will have done something to help her.

Cute sweet looking dog!

Blessings and hugs, Jackie

Oh, I'm sure G. would love to have Shelby there also. Shelby is an outdoor dog. I don't think she'd do well being cooped up in the house. She's used to having a lot of space. Where we are moving, we don't really even have a back yard. There's not even room for a doghouse.

you'd be surprised how many outdoor dogs fall in love with Mom and accept indoors - just means walks 3 times a day - besides if she is sleeping on your porch and eating - you have a new "kid"

Actually, I don't think she's as attached to us as I am to her. I think she basically thinks of us as an easy food source. Everyone in the neighborhood takes part in feeding her. She just comes to us the most, because I'm always trying to make sure she's getting something. Believe me, if the food wasn't so easily accessable here, she'd just go hang out at one of the neighbors.

The man next door to us is the one who took her in when she first showed up in the neighborhood. He got her a collar and and food, and was doing everything for her, but Shelby likes to wander, so everyone contributes to her.

My only concern was (again, thinking the worst senerio) what if she isn't getting enough. What if someone was thinking that another person was making sure she was fed and cared for. If everyone thought that way, she'd probably starved. I know my mind gets the best of me sometimes. LOL Shelby has been here a couple years before we got here. I'm sure she'll be around a lot longer.

I'm just being me....

talk to the neighbors or at least write a form letter to them and explain your concerns about her

Yes, I'm going to. The man who lives in the next room from us has been trying to make friends with her. I'll ask him to watch over her. I'm also going to talk to our landlord about her. His family like her and are always feeding her as well.

One of my rehomes was a kennel dog and the rescue we think was a

kennel or back yard dog. Miss dog wasn't used to indoors when

we got her. But it didn't take her long to become the chief couch

dog. She goes outside to do her business then demands to be back in

the house. That air conditioner thing is sure nice. She was 4 yrs

old when she came into our clubs rescue program. She was scared about

a lot of things and very jumpy about noises and new things. It did

take a couple of months to work through to where she learned how to

learn new things. She was also low thyroid and getting her on pills

has greatly reduced her fear reaction to everything. We decided to

keep her instead of just fostering her. The club was concerned about

fear bite issues and whether or not she could become a companion

animal. If I hadn't had sucess with reconditioning her and found out

about the thyroid level we as a club might have had to put her down,

she was that bad. We were the 4th place she had been that we knew of

and I couldn't ask her to go from a foster home into another new home.

It only took about a week to more or less potty train her for the

house. Having two other dogs to learn from about when and where to go

helped. We do get occasional accidents, but mostly when she has

gotten hold of something like newspaper or a piece of cloth and eaten

it and gotten sick. We do have the house set up so she doesn't have

access to anything when we are gone. seperation anxiety is something

she deals with some, but it is now managable. She is the one dog I

have that when I am home she will follow me from room to room and lay

down and snooze on the floor wherever I am.

The boy Max is happy as long as he has access to his open crate. We

did crate him with the door shut when we first got him and we were

at work. But now he has access to the dog safe part of the house and

the three dogs are together when we are gone. He likes to go into his

crate and snooze while we are gone. The girls pick places and snooze as well.

We signed papers for a divorce today. It came up suddenly, though

things haven't been smooth for a while. When I move out later this

week , Max is going with me. The girls will stay here. I will still

be stopping by on my way home at night and feed and potty the girls.

I will probably take home with me most weekends. I hope we

don't have too much back sliding on the dogs behavior over all this.
