Guest guest
Dear Christy, I too had a very hard time getting off the Prednisone. It also comes in 1mg tabs. Try and decrease even slower. I would get sick everytime I hit 10mg. It was like my magic sick number. At 15mg I started decreasing 1mg every 2weeks. It takes longer but I found a big difference. Good luck! CD 10yrs Humira 40mg /week SCD on and off 4months [sPAM] Prednisone taper and SCD I'm sorry if this topic has been covered before (I found a bit in the archives, but I'd like to learn more). How can I do the diet while I'm on prednisone?I thought the diet was working well, as I was feeling fine while I was tapering off of prednisone (from 40 mg down to 3.75 over a couple of months). But I started having recurring symptoms (joint pain, erythema nodosum, some D) when I went below about 10 mg. I think the steroids must have been masking my symptoms, as I was probably eating more advanced foods than I should have (nut butter, nut flour, SCD beans, occasional raw veggies/fruits).I went back to the Intro diet, but it wasn't helping quickly enough, so I also upped the prednisone (back to 30 mg), so now I am basically back to square one. I can't do the Intro diet for the whole time until I get off prednisone, as that could take 2 months. So what should I eat? Do I need to stay at the Pecanbread Stage 1 foods until I'm all the way off of prednisone? Or is Stage 2 OK? Or should I go back to the Intro again when I reach the very low doses of prednisone? Finally, what if the prednisone itself contains illegal ingredients? (lactose monohydrate, starch, etc.)Thanks for your help!ChristySeattle, WACrohn's 9 yrsSCD almost 3 mos.Asacol, prednisone (still trying to get off of steroids)

Here is something I saved from my early days on the Long Island List which may be helpful for those trying to wean off prednisone: To those trying a slow prednisone wean, Since Ben is 9, he sees a pediatric GI who follows an extremely conservative prednisone weaning schedule that maybe some of you " older " folks would be interested in. I think this schedule is typical for kids but I don't know about adults. Of course, check with your doctor first. It starts when you get down to 20 mg. two weeks - alternate 20mg/15mg every other day two weeks - alternate 20 mg/10mg every other day two weeks - alternate 20 mg/5mg every other day two weeks - alternate 20 mg/0 mg every other day two weeks - 15 mg every other day two weeks - 10 mg every other day two weeks - 5 mg every other day two weeks - 2.5 mg every other day Be well, Caryl mom of Ben, Crohn's 1 year, SCD 3 weeks — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Marilyn! I'm not sure if it was you that posted this schedule before, but it was what I used as a guide for my own taper. My Doc thought I was crazy (he wanted me to go 10mg at a time) but after 4 months of his way not working, I have tried my way of 2.5 a week and am now down to 2.5 daily and am gonna try to go off tommorow for the first time since early Jan. Granted I have have started Imuran, but I was never able to go below 20mg before without being miserable. Wish me Luck!!
