Guest guest
Val Hun, I agree that caution is the better part of valor...since it would mess with SO many years of Tom's career, why not wait a few years, *then* move? It will give y'all time for research, and allow him to finish the years he needs for retirement. That said, *if* y'all decide to move now, I have friends in Verde Valley who might be able to help with suggestions/ideas etc... Guest guest
Hi Akiba, I think Tom is just really missing his kids. His daughter is the baby of the family and a "daddy's girl". I've more or less talked him into staying in law enforcement. I explained to him that with only three years left, it would be a shame to lose his retirement. That's the whole point of having a career isn't it? So you can have something to show and fall back on for all the years of dedication and service you've put in? Well, maybe not the whole point, but a very good one, I think. He said he will try to see if he can find a police department there that will accept a lateral transfer. He also says he doesn't care if he has to start at entry level. Hmmm... I'm not too big on that. I personally don't think that that will happen, but it is a possibility. Ironic that you should mention Valley Verde. I was looking into that yesterday, along with Globe and Buckeye. Also Gila county where Globe is located. I've been checking out the demographics, and so far where I've been looking, the cost of living in some of the smaller towns is a lot lower than it is here. Of course, it stands to reason that the employment salaries are lower as well. What we've decided to do, is go to Arizona next spring when Tom takes his two week vacation and look around. I'm doing what I can on the net to get as much information as I can before going, so I'll know just where to go and what to look for. In reality, I don't see this move happening any time soon. A move like that takes planning and of course, money. Tom is due for a raise, and when he gets it that increase will be what we'll be putting aside for the move. And of course, we won't be moving there unless we have something to move to. You know, like a job and at least an apartment. But, I'll let you and the rest of the "family" know what we're doing. Thanks for telling me about your friends in Valley Verde. You know, any suggestions or information is always welcomed. Love and blessings, Val The residual attributes that we pass down to our children may not be in our genes... but in our souls. Guest guest
Hi Val, I've just read through all the emails related to your possible move. Arizona? Wow! That's huge! LOL I would love to offer anything I'm able. ) I think it's a great idea to visit and look around. Spring is a nice time. When in spring might you come out? I would definitely recommend a visit in the summer, as well, if you're able to before making a move. Globe is a very small town and it's not unusual for people who live there to travel into the greater Phoenix area for work. Mesa would be closer to Globe, as would several other towns. Overall, many jobs in Arizona might not pay as much as they would in other states. We are a Right to Work state and that does have an impact. There are far more opportunities in and around Phoenix. That area is huge and widely spread, so there are many communities you might be able to consider. It's nice having more than a couple options. lol made a good point when she mentioned 's Asthma. The pollution in "The Valley" is terrible. Really bad. It takes it's toll quickly on us when we visit now and had a big affect on my Mom while she was there. There are days when the advisories warn certain portions of the population not to go outdoors. There are communities close enough for work that might get you high enough to not feel the effects as you would if you were in the Valley, but I'm not sure if it would be a great enough difference if the pollution affected you or Tom poorly. Globe might be one of those. Verde Valley/Sedona area might be a good option. I'm not sure about the cost of living, or housing prices in Sedona right now, but it's not been one of the better areas in that regard. Great for artists, though! LOL Payson seems to be another area some people have chosen to live while commuting to the Valley. It's more populated these days and is even a tad bit warmer than it used to be. There really are a number of options, depending on what you're wanting in all regards. You already know the heat is a major factor to be considered and in the Valley it's a bear. Other areas are worse, though I doubt you'll be looking at those. Arizona does have options other than the low dessert with the high temps. But those get you further from Tom's daughter. Flagstaff isn't a "cheap" place to live. It's smaller and very college'y and tourist'y. Prescott is one option, though I can't say I'd recommend it any higher than I would Flagstaff. Both would offer snow, in different measures. You'd also get a bit of snow in/around Globe, too. and I were both born and raised on the east side of the Valley. It was seven years ago when we moved away. We live in cooler temps now, thought he summer temps can and will get just over 100º. The winter temps can get us down to 0º and -0º, though it isn't an "average" temp at all. Our parents also were raised in the Valley area and so much has changed. It would be nice if 's folks could move away... and bring the rest of his family. LOL Maybe moving to Arizona would get you one step closer to Idaho? LOL Or maybe before the move was made, Idaho would become the favorite? <g> Hugs, Challis ValTo: MSersLife Date: Tuesday, September 16, 2008, 7:16 PM Val Hun, I agree that caution is the better part of valor...since it would mess with SO many years of Tom's career, why not wait a few years, *then* move?
