Misty, I could be wrong but from everything that I have read dannon yogurt is not a reliable source of pro biotic so you can not be sure that you even have any "good" bacteria in that batch. For us the yogurt is therapeutic so the yogourmet yogurt starter is what you should use ...you may not have any reaction when you use that because its a reliable source of pro biotic. But to be sure you should hear it from Marilyn she knows this stuff,

Cow's milk cream? Misty Kimble Louisiana CD - no meds SCD - 4 monthsMara Schiffren wrote: Hi Misty,Yes, goat yogurt remains runny, more like a yogurt drink. If you want to firm it up, drip it or add some cream or half and half to it in the fermenting process. which is delicious.Mara

the BTVC site recommends using Danon full fat plain yogurt as a starter. i'm a bit confused. Also Dannon in the U.S. make a commercial plain natural yoghurt, avoid the low fat and non fat versions as they both contain pectin. http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/yoghurt/yog_starters.htm Misty Kimble Louisiana CD - no meds SCD - 4

I know so am I...thats why I said from everything that I have read it contradicts except it makes sense that if you use the yogurt starter in the box it would be most consistent. I have not been doing this as long as some people but I am soooo lactose intolerant and I use the box starter and cook the yogurt for about 31 hrs and then I still have to drip it and I tolerate it fine then. Sorry if I have confused you more but I also had the same reaction!

I normally use the Yogoourmet starter; however, I was planning on moving and let myself run out and was just using the Danon yogurt b/c it was easy. I will be purchasing more Yogourmet starter soon no that I'm settled in my new house. The Yogourmet starter does give a much tarter yogurt. Thanks everyone for your advice on the yogurt. I tasted it and it does taste like yogurt just a little on the runny side (like a yogurt smoothie as someone else posted). Hopefully, I'll be able to go back to my full fat heavy cream yogurt soon. I do so enjoy it just by itself. It's so smooth and creamy. Misty Kimble Louisiana CD - no meds SCD - 4 monthsMara Schiffren wrote: Misty, as you point out, dannon is perfectly legal and containsacidophilus. However, the yogourmet starter packs more of a probiotic punch,so you might want to consider changing to it at some point. Italso makes great yogurt - but its more tart than the dannon. Also - and this may just be me - but when I used the dannonyogurt as a starter, my yogurt turned out more lumpy thanit down now with the yogourmet starter. Yes, in my previous email I meant cow's cream - thoughhaving reread your original email, I see you are trying todetermine whether you are reacting to the cow's milk, soperhaps, in that regard,

not the most helpful advice togive you. <g>Mara> > > Also Dannon in the U.S. make a commercial plain natural yoghurt, avoid the low fat and non fat versions as they both contain pectin.> > > http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/yoghurt/yog_starters.htm> > Misty Kimble> Louisiana> CD - no meds> SCD - 4 months> > suzjordan@... wrote:> Misty, I could be wrong but from everything that I have read dannon yogurt is not a reliable source of pro biotic so you can not be sure that you even have any "good" bacteria in that batch. Good luck with the new house its such a nice feeling to have something new to you! Try dripping that yogurt you might like it thicker...I think its easier to eat when its got thickness to it not to mention easier to digest.

Recently, I used a manual hand mixer when adding the starter forno reason other than convenience. I’ve always stirred it in before. However, this time it turned out to be thicker than usual. I don’t knowif that was a coincidence or not, but I plan on trying it again. In my experience, goat milk is always a little runnier than cow.Sometimes I mix goat and heavy cow cream too, which seems the best combo forme.
