BlankToday I received some great videos and info in the mail. It deals primarily

with auditory/oral auditory/verbal communications. The web address is

www.oraldeafed.org They will send information to you for free. It took about a

week. The children that were in the videos gave me such hope for my own son. We

have chosen AVT. Even if you have chosen something else I still recommend this.

To see what these children have accomplished is beyond my wildest dreams. They

also have a small part about CI too.

Hello to all. It is possible that the US Army will grant our request to send

our family back to the United States from Germany this summer. We have

several choices of assignments. We are looking for anyone who might have

information on the following places that would be helpful to us for our

children.

Colorado School for the Deaf, Colorado Springs

Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind, Hampton, Virginia

Kendell Demonstration Elementary School-t Clerc National Deaf Ed

Center, Campus of Gallaudet

Thanks for any help.

Tammy

Mom to 9, 6-she just had her birthday (both normal hearing) and

I lived in both Colorado Springs and DC.

My son went to Kendall in the PIP to preschool then we moved to Colorado. I

was going to originally put him into the CSDB school but they had this one

school which used tc, It is Jefferson Elem. School. I also have a daughter

who is HI and another hearing daughter. I was able to send all my kids to

this one school. My son and daughter loved their HI teachers and the school

has about 30 HI kids with all degrees of hearing loss they all use FMs.. and

they use SEE they also do some integration into the mainstream classrooms...

Now we are back in DC and I have them both in Kendall (which my daughter was

not eligible to go to when we lived here last time). And I had to basically

push this time because she is more oral then sign...

Kendall is nice but it is a strong ASL environment. Both of my children's

teachers are deaf. If you live in DC the best place to send them is to

Kendall but some parents are able to send there kids to Fairfax County in VA

which has a school that uses TC but you have to work the spec. Ed here and

they are slow as H*!! then you have to deal with transportation and its a

long trip for the kids... another thing you have to live within a 15 mile

radius of kendall for them to pick up at your home, if not you have to bring

them to pick up points or to the school itself..

If you have other kids I would seriously consider not moving to DC, or start

early to find them a good school. I can get some numbers for you in Co. and

DC of the schools if you need them. Just let me know...

What part of the Springs is Jefferson Elementary?? I

grew up in the Colorado Springs and have been

considering moving back there later this year to be

near my family if my husband gets stationed in San

Diego. I would be near King Elem. Just curious...

As of today 18 firefighters have died in the line of duty since Jan.1,2001. May

they watch over those of us who continue to fight the dragon, and may they be

waiting at the gates for those brothers and sisters that are also called home.

Its considered District 11, 1801 N. Ave. I forget the street names but

I believe it is off of Palmer Park(?) going west. We lived on Pete so it was

only about 5-10 minutes away.
