Chennai's Center for Counselling is offering a 4-Day Workshop: Introduction to Counselling. This workshop is designed for health care professionals who might like a review, as well as students and anyone considering counselling as a full or part-time career. The workshop's topics will include: What are the roles of counselling in India today? What are the different types of counselling? How are Western theories and methods of counselling being modified for use in India? What are some traditional Indian methods of counselling? How are counselling and psychotherapy different? How may counselling relate to the general field of Public Health? There will be participatory learning through small-group discussions, exercises and activities, including role-playing of counselling situations (with video recording and playback), and counselling by videoconference. The workshop will be led by Magdalene Jeyarathnam, Founder-Director of the Center for Counselling. She has done counselling training, and curriculum development, for TANSACS (Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society), and the Govts. of Bhutan, Myanmar and Thailand. Magdalene Jeyarathnam is married to folklorist and videoconference director, .
