Miserable in New York

Hi, I have been an on and off lurker for awhile now. After numerous

doctor visits, allergy tests, lupus tests, chest x-rays, you name it,

I diagnosed myself with chronic urticaria in January 1999. I learned

from various websites about the H1/H2 medication combo and requested

that my doctor write the prescriptions, and I haven't been back since.

I was so angry that I had suffered for so long and then had to gather

the info myself!

Anyway, I took 150-300mg Zantac and 10mg Claritin every day for a

year. Recently this combo has not been working, so I switched to

Zyrtec, only to have the worst month in a very long time. So I am

back on Claritin with my fingers crossed. However, I have a question.

Recently I have seen posts where it seems people are taking more of a

" cocktail " approach to urticaria on top of the H1/H2 inhibitors. Is

this self-prescribed or have your doctors been recommending this

approach? Do you have other conditions which require the other meds?

I am willing to take meds forever, I just don't want to itch any

more!

Thanks in advance for any info/advice.
