Acupuncture after lap/Myomectomy?

Hello!

Any thoughts on doing Acupuncture after a recent Myo? My Lap/Myo was two

weeks ago and I wanted to get back to Acupuncture. I had started Acu as an

alternative treatment along with my IVF treatment. I was a bit concerned

since my surgery involved sutures on the uterus and I didn't want to have

anything that would cause any negative effect. The Acupuncturist tells me

that Acu helps after surgery.

Thanks for your feedback...

I'm pretty happy with how my recovery is going -- I had prepared

myself mentally for having a laparascopy with mini-laparatomy, so

coming out with just the laparascopy was quite a happy thing for me.

I had my surgery on a Friday, and was able to stop taking any sort of

pain medication by Sunday -- this from someone with a pretty low pain

tolerance. I also credit my good recovery to having youth (I'm 29)

and good health (distance runner and vegetarian) on my side.

My doctor was McNee, from Menlo Medical Clinic (Menlo Park,

CA). I had a 4cm subserosal and 1cm intramural fibroid removed. No

other signs of fibroids, whew! Hopefully it'll stay that way. The

only surprise was that there was scar tissue around my left ovary and

tube that my doctor cleared away. He saw no signs of endometriosis.

My abdomen is still a bit bigger than normal. I'm not sure how much

of the blame goes to surgery, and how much of it goes to my appetite,

which has been larger than I've expected since 2 days after surgery.

In any case, I now fit into all my clothes except the slim-fitting

ones. I figure once I get my exercise routine in gear, it's just be a

matter of time before my favorite jeans fit again. My doctor did ask

me to ease back into it, so no marathon training for me this summer!

I'm still avoiding certain yoga poses (twists, cobra, backbends), and

will call my doctor's office this week to find when I can start doing

strength training or abdominal exercises (I was so focused on the

running that I forgot to ask about all the other stuff :). I also

need to call to find out about the dissolvable stitches in one of my

incision sites -- the thread sticks out, and hasn't fallen out yet in

over 3.5 weeks. I wonder if it's supposed to take longer, or if

eventually, it'll fall out on its own.

I was on the pill, but my doctor asked me to go off it for this cycle

to minimize any pill-related blood clot risk. As a result, my cycle's

a little whacky right now. I think AF arrived this morning -- I used

a tampon, so for all I know, it might just be spotting (but it's the

first incidence since surgery, where I had a day of spotting). This

is 6 days after I would have expected AF if I were on the pill. I was

worried about pain, cramps, or heavy bleeding from reading other

reports on this group, but so far, I'm not having any problems. I'm

still keeping my fingers crossed, though.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

- Alyssa
