Dear friends,

Community Health Cell (CHC), a resource group in community health/public health,

Bangalore announces a *2 day residential Training Program on " Health as a Human

Right towards realizing Health for All " at Bangalore on 4th and 5th of February

2008.

Aims of the Training program:

The training is designed towards exploring linkages between health and human

rights and building knowledge, perspectives and skills in rights based approach

to health work with a focus on increasing health equity in populations.

1. To understand Health in its holistic sense and not just simply as a

bio-medical issue but also as a social, economic, cultural and political issue.

2. To explore (a). Existing international covenants that give legal

force to the right to health; (B). Directions and strategies for

strengthening the right to health; ©. The basic principles of the human rights

approach to programming in health; and (d). Strategies for ensuring the

realization of the right to health including the supervisory mechanisms that

encourage compliance.

3. Explore the application of a rights-based approach to health

issues.

Targeted participants:

The training is designed for 25 participants working in development arena,

preferably in health and development, in public and not-for-profit sectors.

Individuals interested in the issues of health and development are also

encouraged to apply.

Registration fees:

A registration fee of Rs.300 needs to be paid towards the costs of registration,

training program materials, food and accommodation.

All travel expenses have to be borne by the participants. Interested

organizations who are not able to pay the registration fees could contact the

coordinator of CHC ( E.Premdas) for partial or full waiver of the registration

fees.

Venue: The training program and accommodation will be arranged at Indian Social

Institute (ISI) at Bangalore.
