Any experience with Levlen?

My gyn switched my BCP from Loestrin FE to Levlen. I was started on

Loestrin in an effort to reduce my heavy menstrual bleeding. The

Loestrin didn't help at all. In fact, this last period lasted 10

days, with gushing and clotting, instead of the usual 7.

I was given the option of taking Depro Provera shots or switching to

Levlen. The side effect of weight gain on Depro Provera was enough to

influence me to try the Levlen. I am petite and the thought of a 10

pound a year weight gain is unbearable.

Does anyone in this reading audience have any experience/comments on

Levlen? Did it help? Did it make matters worse?

Thanks,

nne

I've been using Tri-Levlen ever since about 6 months after my myomectomy back

in February 1999, and even though fibroids have returned, they're pretty much

" in check " at an about 14 week sized uterus and no adverse symptoms like the

non-stop bleeding I used to have before the myo.

Hi nne,

I to switched from Loestrin to Tri- Levlen, it controlled my

cycles for a few months and then it was back to flooding. In all , I

have tried 8 different BC pills. The latest one being Nordette which

has sofar kept bleeding minimal but weight steadily increasing. I can

totally understand your issues with gaining weight, this pill is the

first one to cause weight gain for me. I'm pretty much at " wits end "

but just dealing with it for now since the alternative was a blood

transfusion , last feb. I have been wondering if Nordette is

the " miracle bc pill " for women with excessive bleeding probs or if

we are all different in how the WIDE array of pills that is

available, affects us.

Roseanne, I don't have any experience w/Levlen, but I have been on 3 BCP's

hoping to alleviate my heaving bleeding/clotting from my fibroids. The

current one I am on is Lo/Ovral and I too am having the same problem; long

period w/heavy bleeding, some clotting. I am making an appt. w/my doc to now

treat the fibroids, because I can't imagine what these heavy duty BCP's are

doing to me and I have been told that the estrogen in BCP's feed the

fibroids. My periods get longer and heavier each month so it's time to do

something about it other than BCP's. Good luck.
