Guest guest
Here is a list of useful websites and physicians sent to me by a wonderful woman. I apologize if it's difficult to read. Here are some websites for more info are: http://www.ccon.com/hers/ HERS-Hysterectomy Education and Research Services. They provide physician referrals, phone counseling and educational materials to help women save their uteruses and to help women deal with the consequences of hysterectomy. (I can vouch for the excellence of their physicians.) http://www.hystersisters.com/ (Hyster Sisters-visit their chat room and ask questions) http://www.geocities.com/surmeno/def.htm (Survivors Guide to Surgical Menopause) http://www.angelfire.com/fl/endohystnhrt (Hysterectomy awareness) Here are some physician websites. These doctors have national reputations and can remove very large fibroids with great skill: http://www.womencare.org Dr. Levine's website (This was my doctor. He is in Arlington, MA. He is a very nice man, also. I am so grateful to him.) Dr. Toaff's webpage http://www.netreach.net/~hysterectomyedu/Default.htm http://www.netreach.net/~hysterectomyedu/whywould.html Dr. Stanley West author of " The Hysterectomy Hoax. " (This is an excellent book and can be found in many libraries) website: http://www.repmed.com/ I urge you to read, " The Ultimate Rape " or " Uterine and Ovary Removal " by Plourde. http://www.newvoice.net/why.html It contains extensively researched information on hormones and hysterectomy. She wrote the book after her total hysterectomy and her long search to be well again. Other good books are: " Fibroid Tumor and Endometriosis Self Help Book " by M. Lark " Progesterone in Orthomolecular Medicine " and " From PMS to Menopause: Female Hormones in Context " by Ray Peat http://www.efn.org/~raypeat/sub.html A very good website on the hormonal aspects of fibroids is: http://www.lef.org/protocols/prtcl-139.shtml If you want to read good pages on estrogen and estrogenic pollutants, check these out. http://www.efn.org/~raypeat/estroaging.rtf http://www.efn.org/~raypeat/estriol.rtf If you eventually end up with hysterectomy, you might check out these books on Natural hormone replacement. Standard HRT contains compounds that are chemically different than human hormones resulting in it's many side effects. NHRT uses hormones that exactly match human hormones. Drug companies have little interest in the naturals, because they are not patentable and thus not profitable. NHRT is more extensively used in Europe. These books give information on finding an experienced NHRT doctor. " Natural Woman, Natural Menopause " Marcus Laux, Conrad; Paperback; @ $11.70 each from amazon.com " Natural Hormone Replacement For Women Over 45 " V. , Morgenthaler (Contributor); Paperback; @ $8.95 each from amazon.com " Hormonal Health " by Dr. Colgon. He talks about the damaging effects of hysterectomy on health due to loss of vital hormones. If you'd like to read about the thyroid/esterogen/ progesterone connection, check these out. Numberous studies have found a connection between thyroid problems and fibroid growth. http://thyroid.about.com/library/weekly/aa110800a.htm?terms=ray+peat http://thyroid.about.com/library/weekly/aa071700a.htm? terms=progesterone+and+thyroid http://thyroid.about.com/library/weekly/aa111600a.htm? terms=progesterone+and+thyroid http://thyroid.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm? site=http://www.thyroid%2Dinfo.com/articles/viana%2Dmuller%2Dherbs.htm If you are interested in finding an anti-aging doctor to check out your hormones and thyroid, check out these sites: http://www.lef.org/doctors/directoryofdoctors01.html http://www.worldhealth.net/cgi-local/DB_Search/db_search.cgi? setup_file=whn.setup.cgi If you are interested in learning what studies are out there on medicines, hormones, fibroids or whatever, check out this site. Guest guest
I'm from the Detroit area and have never heard of this doctor (does not mean anything). I have heard that a Dr. Bartholomew (sp?) out of Beaumont Hospital has a fair amount of experience with UAE patients. Also, while I've been going to my OB/GYN for less than a year, I can tell you that I'm happy with her care (Dr. Seltzer out of Beaumont). She definitely did not pressure me one way or another regarding my treatment. We discussed options and the decision was mine. She was familiar with UAE but didn't have much experience with patients who had had it. But based on my discussions with my IR and Dr. Seltzer, I felt confident enough in her to continue with her during/after my UAE. Ann M. Guest guest
Therese, I don't know about the Dr. Bartholemew (sp?) but I have Blue Choice (Blue Cross' point of service plan, somewhere between a PPO and HMO) and Dr. Seltzer's office accepts that insurance.
