Fibroid in the abdomen?

I think I might have a silly question but I wanted to find out if

anyone has heard of a fibroid growing out of the uterine cavity into

the upper abdomen. Location above the belly button and below the

ribcage on the left side.

I wasn't diagnosed with it but I have had this area that when I press

it in I can feel a tenderness and a pain radiates to my back. I sort

of feels like something is in there that I can move. It is very odd.

I have had it for about 3-5 years and had it sonogramed 3 years ago

and they said they didn't see anything. I hope it's not some sort of

cancer but I figure if it was than I would be having some other

symptoms by now.

I asked my GP and he said there aren't any organs over there just the

colon and the aorta artery. He said it could be my aorta(aorta

anureysm)but from what I have read that ususally happens in people

over 65,mostly men, with hardening of the arteries. It also doesn't

pulsate. He sent me for an MRI to check that and my fibroids,so I am

waiting for the results. They were sopposed to use contrast in my arm

through I.V. for the abdomen part but I have bad veins and they

could'nt get the I.V. in so they could'nt use the contrast. I am

hoping they can still tell what is going on.

I started thinking maybe somehow a fibroid grew up through there. So

it's either that,if that's possible,my colon,which maybe something

will show on the MRI,and than I will get a colonoscopy,a muscle pull

that never healed,a benign something,my aorta,or G-d forbid some kind

of slow acting cancer.

It doesn't bother me unless I press it and I have no symptoms except

my bowels have changed. I have sort of an irritable bowel. I go in

the moring a few times and it is on the loss side and flat. I haven't

had a solid in a long time(sorry so graphic). I think that is from

the fibroids but that is why I am going to ask for a colonoscopy. I

am going to take a fecal test but I have no blood that I can see and

no pain.

If this sounds familiar to anyone please let me know or if it is

possible it could be a fibroid. I won't know the results until Tues.

or Wed.

Thanks

Bonnie,

The tenderness does not sound like a fibroid, but does sound

something like a description I once heared of endometriosis from a

sufferer. No guarantees - just an idea.

She had it high in the abdomen as well. Apparently it can get out!

Best of luck with sorting out whatever it might be.

Anne-thanks I never had endometriosis and I would assume with all the

sonograms and hysterscope I have had they would have seen that. I

also don't have pain when I get my period.

I doubted it was a fibroid either so I guess I have to wait until the

MRI results come back. It is hard waiting and I am praying it isn't

anything serious.

I would assume if it was a cancer of some sort in the 5 years I have

had it I would have had some sort of serious symptoms by now. Unless

it is a weird slow acting one.

Thanks

Bonnie

It is possible for fibroids to grow on the outside of the uterus. They're

called subserosal.

Actually, they can grow on stalks outside of the uterus, and they are called

" peduncular. "

I have heard of those but I wonder if they can grow above the belly

button and you can feel tenderness when you touch there.

I don't have any pain unless I press it and than it is like a weird

tenderness.

I have 4 subserosal fibroids that have grown up into my belly button

area. They are putting pressure on my bladder and bowels. And I too

have horrific lower back pain. Keep us posted on what happens.

Bonnie,

I don't think sonograms, or even MRIs, can see most endometriosis

lesions very well. Did they place the ultrasound instrument over the

tender spot on your abdomen when they did yours? Also, a

hysteroscopy can only see inside the uterus. Endometriosis is

outside. I think most diagnoses are confirmed using a laparoscope.

Maybe someone here who has endometriosis can comment?

Hope you find out what it is soon,

best wishes,

Ellen M.

This could be pain from a ulcer or a gall bladder

attack.
