I have come to the conclusion that it is really about finding the most skilled doctor to help me. I am really fed up with this crap these doctors keep feeding me about hysterectomies. I am only 35 and I do not want to make a decision like this unless it was absolutely necessary, I want to keep my uterus and every doctor that I have been to in the last several months keep pushing the hysterectomy, as if it is my only alternative. I live in Los Angeles, CA and I am really having a hard time trying to find a surgeon to help me. I really want a myomectomy, but the doctors keep saying that they are too large for a myomectomy. Any information would be God send. Please ....

Guest guest
Dear Neophyte, How large is 'too' large? And how many large fibroids do you have and where is their location? What symptoms are they causing? Yes, you need to find a skilled and caring doctor to help you - hopefully someone will point you in the right direction for LA. I'm 35 and had my myo in April and am very pleased. However, my sister had a myo last year and is very unhappy - but we had quite different problems, and her doctor turned out to be a bit of a monster (mine an 'angel'). Post some more information about your troubles to the group and you may get some useful advice. It's a great place to ask and learn more. All the best in your quest for the best solution. Guest guest
To Sgaines32: I too have some of the exact symptoms of fibroids you have. Heavy bleeding, clotting, low bad back pain, severe PMS problems, etc, etc. I too went to the ER in March and the young attractive dr. said " oh yeah, you will need a hysterectomy " . He hadn't even examined me or anything and I thought he was way out of line saying that. Your fibroids are larger than mine, but the small submucosal ones I have are sometimes the problem ones. I found a dr. that I like now and we are proceeding slowly. He too put me on BC pills, but they aren't too bad now and it gives me time to see what my best option/s will be. Good luck. Guest guest
Thanks Clare for the tips. I do not have the most accurate sizes of the two largest ones. But the one that is running across my abdomen under my navel is approximately 12-15 cm in length. according to the ultrsound tech, my uterus has enlarged to ana extent that it has lapsed over onto itself. My uterus is the size of a 5-6 month pregancy. Anemic. Heavy periods with very bad clotting. Heavy pressure on my bladder, which has me going to the bathroom frequently. One of the last docotrs had put me on birth control pill to help control the bleeding. Unfortunately, while being on those pills I bleed as if I was hemorrhaging. I rushed to the ER where some flippant doctor just told me to get a hysterectomy and I will be okay. I also have terrible back pain. Also, my pms symptoms are horrible: my entire abdomen feels like it is about to drop into my abdomen, moodiness and nausea. I feel such a mess at times. I just want the fibroids removed. > > I am a very frustrated woman in need of support as I wade > > through this quagmire to get the right help for my fibroids. Guest guest
Dear Neophyte, I was lucky enough not to have the bleeding problems - just bulk sitting on my bladder. If you want to preserve your fertility, then you'll be looking at myo/UAE... I expect for treatment. If fertility isn't a worry, then you may consider hyster. Ultimately, find a couple of good doctors to seek the best solution for you. All the best. Clare. > Thanks Clare for the tips. Guest guest
I am just wondering how big are your fibroids. At the time of my myo my fibroid measured 19 cms. So don't let no doctor tell you that your fibroids are too big for a myo. > I am a very frustrated woman in need of support as I wade > through this quagmire to get the right help for my fibroids.
