Additional Benefits to Following SCD

I was diagnosed with Crohn's (began Asacol) in May '07 after

struggling with numerous health issues for several years and being

extremely ill for more than a year. I started SCD in June '07 and

have followed it strictly since that time. Today, I am med-free and

symptom-free, working and living a normal life. Although I have

never posted before I have faithfully followed the discussions of

this group for the last year and have benefitted tremendously from

the knowledge and insight of the contributors.

I am thrilled with the results of the diet and often marvel at how

it works. I recently discovered a book that presents compelling

research that implicates carbohydrates in several serious diseases

including obesity, Type II diabetes, atherosclerosis, some endocrine-

related cancers, and some nuerological issues, possibly including

Alzheimers. Several things about the book were striking: the

strength of the case against carbohydrates, the failure to mention

the connection between carbs and the family of IB diseases, and the

near astonishing revelation of how " bad science " has been

perpetuated, followed blindly by the medical community and used to

create public policy. This last point will seem very poignant to

anyone who has struggled with the medical community in seeking

relief from IBD.

I am now doubly thankful for the SCD diet since it has resolved my

CD and I now believe it may be helpful avoiding other diseases

of " western civilization " . If you need more encouragement to follow

the SCD diet, pick up a copy of " Good Calories, Bad Calories " by

Taubes.

Blessings to all,

Crohns Disease
