Guest guest
Hi Sandy, one more thing: I was very surprised though that on this very large email group there were not more people who had similar experiences. Are degenerating fibroids really so rare? Sabine
Guest guest
Hello, my name is Roslyn, I'm 37 years old and just joined the group. Last Sunday, June 2, I lost my baby at 14 weeks due to the sudden growth and degeneration of a fibroid. I didn't know I had fibroids until shortly before I got pregnant and was assured that in all likelihood they wouldn't be a problem. At about the eight week mark the pain was so excrutiating I literally dropped to my knees and couldn't get up. I dealt with this for an additional six weeks with no pain killer besides Darvocet until finally I went into pre-term labor. It's fairly certain that the fibroid grew so fast that it deprived my baby of space in my uterus. I assume now that I'll have to have surgery before getting pregnant again, there's no way I'm going through that type of pain. > > Hi Sandy, > > one more thing: I was very surprised though that on this very large > email group there were not more people who had similar experiences. > Are degenerating fibroids really so rare? > > Sabine

What about the medical people that treated you? Had they never thought of getting you into hospital for the pain? As I wrote earlier, I was told that if these first tablets did not work (Dihydramol) then they would have to put me on a morphine drip and keep me in hospital. In my experience, my normal doctor did not really know enough about the effect fibroids can have in pregnancy and therefore did not take my problems that seriously. In terms of medical care, I was given the best care by some people in the teaching hospital where I eventually delivered, not necessarily by the consultant, but by some people down the line. There was an assistant doctor who knew about fibroid pain (that was when I went into hospital because I could not bear the pain anymore) and the radiologist who did my first scan also seemed to know a bit more. The more people you see, the greater the likelihood that there will be someone wo actually knows something more that the others. All the best Sabine
