Hi Carol,

In case your doctor disagrees with you about the zantac/zyrtec combination and doesn't want to prescribe them together, you can buy zantac over the counter so your doctor won't be able to stop you ! Good luck with it, and let us know how you get on!

After another miserable night scratching, I was enormously cheered by all of your support this morning-thanks. I knew others were taking more than 10mg zyrtec per day!!!! Anyway, I have enough antihistamines to take the dose I feel I need for another month, so I'm going to do that, and then return to my doctor. I will be able to demonstrate that I have survived on 20mg per day, and I will have amassed the info I need from the group archives to support my case for a zyrtec/zantac combo, which is what so many of you recommend trying. I know I've read this many times before; I just didn't "hear" you until now, in relation to myself! I really just thought cemetidine, which I am also taking, must be similar to zantac, and didn't want to bother - I want to bother now!

After reading Patti's message, I guess I should be grateful that my doctor actually managed to keep her eyes open during our (very brief) consultation...(but, be warned - they can have their eyes open, and still be brain dead - ha ha!). If she won't listen when I go back, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Some of you have suggested getting another doctor, but that isn't easy these days in London. There aren't enough to go around as it is, and they are not "keen" on taking on patients like me, with a chronic, expensive thing that just drags on and on. I had already changed my doctor once, to be with her, as she came highly recommended (??!) and my previous doc just didn't have the faintest, foggiest clue. He was the one who kept saying I should have lots of cool baths and change my bedding frequently (!) - I asked him how changing my bedding frequently would decrease the number of white blood cells raging around in my body, and he just giggled, helplessly......

Have a nice day, everybody!
