Guest guest
Dear forum, We have Drop in centre named " Aasara " as well as art centre at LTMG Hospital.Drop in centrs main role is care & support. Psycological, social, educational & vocational support is given to all beneficieries. we HAVE STARTED OFFERING Soya nuts to children. The soyanuts are offered in diff flavours.OUR OBSERVATION IS THAT CHILDREN & ADULT EQUALLY ENJOY THEM. This has improved compliance as well as nutritional status which is of vital imp in prevention of infections.A pilot project had proved that those who are on nutritional supplements did not lose wt & had better fighting power. The Nutritive value of 100 gms of Soyanuts is 432 calories 43 gm protein 10.4 mg Fe. 240 mg Calcium Therapeutically patients of ART require supplementation (ie.) 11 gms Protein 13 Kcl With adequate Folate, ca, Fe, magnesium. This is provided by consuming 2 tbsp of Soyanuts (i.e. 20 gms). The cost of 100 gms of soyanuts is Rs. 10/-. The Soya nuts make a power packed snacks Which are good for both children and Adults. Nutritional supplements is a key component of drop in centre however it is obseved that no monetary provision for this activity by NACO. I appeal to policy makers to make substantial budget provision for it which will go along way in improving health of HIV+, Dr Daksha Pandit LTMMC & LTMGH SION, MUMBAI. e-mail: <drdaksha@...>
Guest guest
Dear Forum, Re: /message/8939 Soy nuts are a great source of protein. Not only soynuts, but a lot of AIDS patients become lactose intolerant, and drinking soymilk, offers them a lot of protien. Since soynuts takes the flavor of whatever you dip it in, rubbing the soynuts with hot masala will give it that flavor. Tastes great!!! Another form is to make frozen yogurt for people who are lactose intolerant. If you cannot freeze yogurt, just taking yogurt or 'dahi' is good for you. Remember that AIDS is a disease of the gut. Try to keep the viral load low (preferably undectectable < 50 count) will help body absorb food and keep from having 'wasting'(where the body is in such disarry that body cannot absorb nutrients) syndrome. Another good food is peanut butter. Keep well. Eat healthy!!. Stay away from drugs. Priyadarshi Datta e-mail: <pdatta@...>
