Guest guest
Hi Georgia, I understand the wisdom of Mother Nature doubling up on everything (ie, two testicles, two ovaries, two eyes, etc, etc) but I thought that if one is taken away the chances of having a baby decreases. But I guess not with your twins. =) Mark ----Original Message Follows---- Reply-To: NF2_Crew To: <NF2_Crew > Subject: cysts Date: Wed, 25 Apr 2001 22:06:56 +1000 Dear Mark, I'm not , but I can answer your question about ovarian cysts. Mother Nature, in her wisdom, had a back up plan in case people's reproductive bits and pieces went wrong. Just as men have two testes, women have two ovaries and two fallopian tubes. If one ovary and/or tube is lost for whatever reason, the other one should still function normally. In my own case, when I was 13 I began getting terrible abdominal pains. Many and various doctors put it down to puberty, growing pains (truly!), grumbling appendix and the desire to get out of school. As if I didn't have better ways of avoiding school. Anyway on Easter Saturday 1981, yes that's 20 years ago folks, I had such agonizing pain in my side that Mum took me to the hospital where the pain ceased. In the afternoon I threw up the half a chocolate I had eaten, then had a bath and collapsed on the floor behind the locked door. Doctor no. 4 for the day said, Hmm, appendix, take her to hospital Mrs. Rickard. What they found was a ruptured cyst the size of an orange, and a whole lot of pus and goo and mucky stuff. Appendix was fine but they took it anyway. I was on a drip for 4 days and was sooo sick with peritonitis I thought I was going to die. Then two years later I had a laparoscopy to see what was causing the pain on the other side but it was inconclusive. However they told Mum that I was most likely infertile. Now this is where the story of Katrina and Madel comes in........
