Guest guest
Hi Craig, Welcome to the crew. Sorry I am so late in welcoming but I am always behind. I am sorry to hear of your sons diagnosis. He is blessed to have you as a parent. Children need strong advocates. This is a great place to ask questions and as you can see you get all kinds of responses. Last summer, I had a 8mm AN removed at House. They were able to save both hearing and facial nerves. They removed the vestibular to prevent regrowth. My sister,Carolyn's largest tumor was 1cm and they were able to save hearing and facial nerve. My sister, Becky's largest tumor was almost 1.8 cm and they were not able to save hearing and has temporary facial weakness. The tumor on the other side was smaller so they were able to save hearing on that side. She is now back to work as an RN. Her children will be having there second AN removed next month at HEI. I feel surgery has come a long way from when my mom and others have had ANs removed. I think preserving hearing is great but if I was to choose..... I would make sure they were able to save the facial nerve. Not for vanity sake, but function. I think hearing is often put above the facial nerve. If you loose the facial nerve not only do you get a crooked smile but constant eye problems, dry mouth, chewing, and the list goes on of problems. Many Blessings,
