Guest guest
Becky/All moms: I don't think it's the same in the States, but walkers (the ones that are seats with wheels, not the activity push walkers that look like carts) are banned in Canada due to the safety hazards they can pose. It's not illegal to HAVE one, but they really suggest destroying all baby walkers, and it is illegal to purchase one from somewhere else, or to even sell one in a garage sale, you can face fines or jail time, and anyone caught shipping one from another country to here faces the same thing. There was a voluntary ban in which all stores stopped selling them in 1989, but it was just put into effect that they were made illegal earlier this year. I don't recommend using walkers at all, to any moms, if you want your child to have some mobility then I suggest getting the exersaucer that has one stationary post and two wheels so they can walk in circles. Not only can it be dangerous if left alone for a few minutes, as they can walk to areas they shouldn't be, pull things off of counters, or fall down the stairs, but in a study done most walkers toppled over if too much weight was thrown from one side of the walker to another (not very good for an active chubby, or older baby) I really really recommend against them, and there are other alternatives for them.
