My father is Jewish(Russian), and Lee's father is Italian. Sounds like it could be a possibility. -mom to 5 (HA's with FM severe to profound loss), 101/2, and
Guest guest
I think the type of " mutation " is a major indicator in what likelihood a certain population group will be affected. I frequently run across references that Ashkenazi Jewish and Oriental populations are very common in the Cx26 mutations. All Caucasoid populations in general are at a higher risk and estimates are that 1/35 Caucasions are carriers of one of specific types of mutations (35delG). But the mutations are all different...the Jewish population are more likely to have a 167delT mutation, etc. But all are essentially Cx26 mutations. I know I have seen references to Italians (and as someone on the list mentioned, a lot of these studies are being done in Italy) -- but I can't find where I read that....?? I read up on this a lot when my daughter was being tested...we are of German descent...but it ended up being just useless little facts stuck now in my head because her test turned up negative! My husband is Italian, I am 1/2 Russian, although not Jewish (that I know of!). We are both carriers. Stefanie
Guest guest
There is a web site on connexins written by the Italian researchers. Someone on the list posted it about 2 weeks ago. See if they can send it out again. Thats where I got it from and also personal observation. Diane, Kara's mom Re: Connexin 26 gene-again?
