Guest guest
Claritin is similar to Allegra i think.... i know that not all insurance covers it so i think its a good one... i had problems when i tried atarax.. it totally knocked me out!! Claritin is safe to take, even with alcohol, which is a plus.. check out www.claritin.com they have a section for hives there too.... Cheers! Guest guest
Dear Debbie O I take 4 Claritin in the AM and 4 Zyrtec in the PM. It's the amount that makes the difference for me. Good luck Barbara
Guest guest
Hello everyone and welcome to the new members, I am interested in the recent discussion re: Claritin. Jackie (or somebody!) had some articles that said the most effective H1 (I think) antihistamine is Zyrtec for urticaria. Many of us have been helped by the Zyrtec/Zantac combo as well. I was on Z/Z at night (zyrtec makes me tired) and Allegra/Zantac in the morning for several months. I also had my round of dreadnisone for about 3 monts as well. Recently, I have been doing very well with just occasional itching. Went back to the allergist who asked me about my intentions re: pregnancy. I told him that I would like to be pregnant this year or next year. SO, he took me off of all the meds and replaced it with Claritin. This (along with zyrtec) is one of the safer H1's for pregnancy. Well to make a long story short, I have been doing very well. Dr. said that I need to take the Claritin every day and not just as needed. So, I guess the point of my story is that yes everyone is different and reacts to the meds differently. Hope everyone is doing well.....just my opinion on the most recent discussion. Guest guest
I tried Claritin once. I was seeing a new doctor - he pulled me off the meds I was taking (atarax, tagamet, Benadryl and ephedrine sulphate at that time) and promised Claritin would take care of the symptoms. Ended up in the ER, throat swollen shut, almost died...... and when I went back on my original meds, they didn't work any more either. Then I had to go back on prednisone. The Claritin didn't do a thing to help me. Found a new doctor, too. The point is, everyone is different. What helps me may not help anyone else. And what helps me for now may not work at all a month or a year from now. If I'm able to maintain on a particular med or combo of meds, I stick with it while it works. When it stops working, then I find something else.... Guest guest
After my hives have calmed down a bit, I am under good control with just 10 mg Claritin per day. Hope everyone is having a good day. Cara in Ohio
Guest guest
Yep but only if I take 20mg in the evening and 20mg of Zirtec in the morning. Combination works for me. Shona =

Guest guest
I had a doctor try me on Claritin one time - most useless drug I've ever taken, other than maybe Allegra. Waste of my money, both of them. Guest guest
Hi, I use claritin (loratidine in the U.K.) 10mg twice a day, together with cemetidine 400 mg twice a day, with sort-of ok results. Also, since having heel tendon problems, I have added diclofenac 50 mg three times a day and ibuprofen 400 mg three times a day, with very little relief from the pain.
