Guest guest
Hi Misty, I would suggest Tylenol (acetaminophen). It'll have fillers (illegals) in it but it's easier on the gut than ibuprofen or any other NSAID. Hope you feel better, Kim H. husband, , CD 1999 SCD 2002 SCD legal headache medicine I just called the only compounding pharmacy in my area and she only compounds prescriptions. I have had a headache for 2 days. I did take ibuprofen from a bottle yesterday but know it's not legal. I'm back at work today and the headache is getting worse. Is there anything over the counter that is SCD-approved for headaches? I don't have allergy problems so I don't think that is the cause. After having my daughter 6.5 years ago, I started getting regular tension like headaches until I started SCD. This is the 3rd headache I've gotten since starting 6 months ago and it's a whopper. Thanks for your help,Misty Kimble - 31yoLouisianaCD - 2/07 - no medsSCD - 6 months

Misty, There is, as I'm sure you can appreciate, only so much one can do with salmon oil and so forth as anti-inflammatories. I've been using both acetaminophem and motrin for post surgical pain and I can tell you honestly that the acetaminophen gives me less grief than the motrin / ibuprofen. Even WITH the illegals. Guest guest
Thanks Eileen. The only compounding pharmacy here requires a prescription so I'll have to go to a doctor, which isn't covered by my insurance. Only hospital stays are covered. If I react to the Tylenol, I'll have to do it for the occassional headaches I get. Guest guest
Hi Donna: I drink 9-12 cups of water daily so I don't think that's the issue. I don't normally have sinus problems, but my throat is very sore this morning. I just past the 6 month mark and had a small flare a couple weeks ago but now I think that was food induced and what I'm experiencing now is die off. ??? I'm not sure. I know I feel like I have the flu today along with the headache. Thanks everyone for your replies!!!! Sometimes I get migraines when I let myself get dehydrated. By the time I reach that point the water won't make it disappear but it takes the edge off. Does anyone know if Tylenol Sinus would be OK? I know I feel like I have the flu today along with the headache. Well, then, maybe it is the flu. With the sore throat and all. A headache, for me, can be a first indication of getting sick. And so can a sore throat. Check your temperature. Or it could be die-off. Have some of the electrolyte drink. Also, it's okay to take meds with die-off. My symptoms are headache, tense muscles in my next and shoulders, sore throat, wierd upset stomach (doesn't feel the same as the CD symptoms I had before SCD), and my right hip feels like it's on fire (I have bursitis in that hip). No coughing, congention, or runny nose though I know you don't have to have that to have the flu. > > Or it could be die-off. > It's so hard to tell. From reading previous posts, I know die off can give you flu like symptoms. I don't normally get sick like this though. When I get sick, it's usually bronchitis. I think that's from living in a smoking house the first 20 years of my life and smoking myself for 7 years because since I moved out of my mom's house 11 years ago and quit smoking, I only get bronchitis once or twice a year versus the 4 or 5 times I got it when I lived there. > > Have some of the electrolyte drink. > I'll try that when I get home from work this afternoon. > > Also, it's okay to take meds with die-off. > Thanks!!!!! Your posts are always encouraging!!! Thank you. ;-> Another thing I thought which will really help bring relief if it is die-off is take long, long epsom salt baths. When I had horrific die-off last year, this brought the most relief. Also, (if it is die-off) just keep focusing on the fact that the worse it gets, when it's over, you'll begin to feel levels better (at least until the next flare hits. <g>) I remember walking around last summer with such a feeling of well being and joie de vivre. Those toxins are really toxic. Unfortunately, then, at some point, I got the 3 month flare, but I kept thinking it was 3 month die-off - so I was all - bring it on! - I'll get through it and feel even better. Unfortunately 3 month flare doesn't work quite the same at the resolution. It's more of a slow climb out of symptoms, I find. Anyway, hope you are better soon. Guest guest
I purchased some activated charcoal at lunch today. They didn't have a powder, but had capsules. Each capsule is 280mg. It says the only ingredients are activated charcoal and gelatin "Soloray guarantees it has added NO ingredients other thatn those listed on this label". So, that's good. How exactly should I take it, or how would YOU take it? Guest guest
Hi Misty, Open 2 capsules into cup (do a few cups like 4 cups at one time) Boil some water pore over charcoal. Be careful as the stuff poofs up and can get you and everything dirty (don't do it in pretty clothes) let it sit (at least an hour) and wait to see that the charcoal grains go to the bottom and the water just stays dyed like a grey'ish color and isn't black- meaning you can see through it. and drink. don't drink the mud at the end. I actually reuse the charcoal one more time (same directions above) The reason to do it this way is that the activated charcoal grains can actually have a reverse effect and upset the mucosal lining. My herbalist explained this to me. One time when I wasn't patient enough I did drink it without letting it settle and it is in fact upsetting. I am sure people will have different ways to take it. This really works for me. I make a few cups at a time and leave on counter and that way I have it ready to drink whenever I need it. Guest guest
Hi Misty, I'm sorry I know you are suffering with this massive headache of yours:( not as attached to the hip with my mac although I am feeling a little better today. If I start feeling bad like my tummy starts aching or if I am having an intense sugar crave or sugar high I drink it. I also drink it if I feel very brain foggy and just mentally cluttered- not functioning very well (sometimes I even find myself searching for a word or stuttering this seems to also have to do with yeast surges) I drink it. I will drink like up to 5-6 glasses of this during day. Sometimes evening/night alone I will drink 3 glasses. I do this in bouts though as it isn't an everyday thing for me. I would say every couple of weeks I do this for a few days at a time. I do it according to how my body feels (I know statements like this are annoying as it is hard to pinpoint and understand what it is I am saying!) It is important to note that charcoal flushes the system and with that also depletes the body of minerals/nutrients. So on days it isn't bad I might drink a glass in morning and a glass in evening. Took a few glasses for this to help my headache (I too suffer from headaches) but keep it going a couple of days. Don't take too close to headache medication. Not sure if it can lessen effect of meds. I will ask my herbalist next time. Also, I find that chiropractic care and acupuncture have really helped my headaches in the past. Just recently I resumed going to a chiro and it was bliss for my head/shoulder/back. I hope I will be able to go on Thur and not feel too faint. Guest guest
It's a slow day at work, that's the only reason I'm on here so much today. Usually I just get on a couple times a day at work. Thanks for the detailed response. I will start trying it your way to see if it helps. I have intense sugar cravings and wind up toasting some chopped nuts and adding raisins until they're hot and then adding honey too. It's legal and satisfies my craving, but my gut doesn't like it. If the charcoal will help with that, I would be so happy. I really can't afford to go a chiropractor or anything that's not mandatory. I haven't even gone to my GI since starting SCD to shove it in her face that I fixed myself with diet ALONE and she was wrong about diet not playing a role in Crohn's, but I just don't have the money to splurge to do that. My insurance only covers hospital stays and procedures. Do you ever mix yours with anything like tea? I usually have a glass of hot tea before bed and was wondering if I could use the "charcoal water" to make my tea with. Since it depletes your body, do you take anything extra when you drink it? (like the electrolyte drink or a multi vitamin) Thanks!!!
