Hi n and Val, yes it is me. I never go into yahoo to read them so I will check that

out, I am guilty of being way behind in emails so when I scan them quickly I look at the subject line. I didn't realize until I started reading alot of the emails that alot of you must be online at the same time and use this like an IM, that's cool. I could see how you wouldn't be changing the subject line.

I have a question and hopefully one of you from the group would now. I met a gal that has MS and she was military. She is on VA disability. I'm not military so I'm not familiar with this but she wants to be able to apply for SSDI, social security sent her the earnings statement that she would received if she was on disability. I'm trying to help her since she cannot write herself and was gonna help her fill out this social disability benefit questionare. Does receiving VA disabilty have any impact on her receiving social security disability? She was not sure and have no into inregards to her VA disabilty. Thanks all in advance

Dear Darlene,

To my knowledge, there is no reason why any person on Veterans

Disability cannot receive Social Security Disability Income as well,

and thus, Medicare, and a part D plan for prescriptions, provided that

she has contributed, and her employers as well to Social Security

within the time constraints currently in effect. Social Security, whether

retirement or Disabiltiy Insurance income with Medicare are not determined

by one's income, but by that has been contributed to the system.

On the other hand, if she is really low income, say below about $1,000.00

per month, in many states she will also be eligible for Supplemental Security

Income and Medicaid. The SSI/Medicaid are (financially speaking) " ëntitlement "

programs, but Social Security/Medicare is what one has insured one's self

with by virtue of FICA withholdings (viewable on past check stubs) and now

separately withheld Medicare contributions. Anyone, incuding the superrich,

if they have put into SSA/SSDI/Medicare can, in theory receive the benefits.

If your friend to whom you are so helpful, can no longer write there should be

little question about eligibility based on disability. Many people do retire on

one, two or even three payment plans and insurances, among them SSA/SSDI/

Medicare and VA.

The last decision was if they reported their injuries were combat related they lost all Veterans pay and took the lesser pay of combat related pay. So you can finish your morning coffee I won't go into the more sickening details - remember my sister is married to a veteran and 2 of her sons have retired in the last year or 3 years and the third is active duty.
