Guest guest
Hi, is it possible for a person to exhibit Neurological symptoms associated with MS, without actually having any lesions? For any of you that have already been diagnosed, did you have lesions on your first MRI..If not, about how long before you start seeing lesions appear...I know that MS affects everyone differently, but I just needed to ask..Anne Whitworth wrote: Since November my sisters have been finishing my sentences - I just loose what I am saying - I take 3 - 5 tries to get something done - I needed a good laugh. Re: You know you have MS when... Val,Thanks for these. Yesterday, I tried to start my carwith my son's car key. I just wouldn't start. Thekey would go in but it wouldn't turn. It took severalminutes before I figured out what was wrong, then Istarted laughing. My kids, who were in the car withme, chimed, "Oh Mom" then they laughed too. There's been many times when I've forgotten to rinsethe conditioner out of my hair. People I recognize are always saying hello to me. Iknow that I'm supposed to know who they are, but Ican't for the life of me think of a name to go withthe face.I can certainly relate to many of these. Thanks, again for sharing.Donna in WA--- Val Lee <a1manlady> wrote:> I pulled this off of one of my friends blog entries.> I thought it was pretty funny. Guest guest
, Hi, Kate here. I had trigeminal neuralgia that begin in 1997, but no one knew what it was. Finally in 2005 (May) a neuro figured it out, and suspected MS. In Sept. 2005, only 1 lesion; by Dec. 2005 2 lesions, plus abnormal evoked potentials on my legs, and loads of symptoms. That is my story. MS is very frsutrating, and we each have a completely different story on how we can to be dx'd. blessings and hugs, Kate Hi, is it possible for a person to exhibit Neurological symptoms associated with MS, without actually having any lesions? Guest guest
This sounds like my story. A wicked bout of optic neuritis in Sep 2003 began my path to dx...but it would take several years for a neuro to confirm. My first MRI showed no lesions, but the neuro still called me " probable MS " . Year later, another MRI, still no lesions, but I had another " attack " with numbness/tingling in my left arm and face. Evoked potentials showed degeneration, and I had abnormal reflexes in my left arm. Another year later, had 3rd MRI on the new machine at the hospital, radiologist detected 1 lesion, and upon reviewing my previous year's MRI was able to see the same lesion on the previous MRI. The MRI alone, with only 1 lesion wasn't enough to " confirm " diagnosis, but along with the abnormal results from the evoked potentials, the severity of the optic neuritis, and the neurological signs, my neuro finally confirmed diagnosis. So long story to answer your question, yes, you can have neurological signs typical of MS without having visible lesions on MRI. My 1st neuro said that in her experience, approximately 5% of patients present the way I did, with an obvious symptom of MS like optic neuritis that show clean MRI at first. in " winterpeg " > > Hi, is it possible for a person to exhibit Neurological symptoms associated with MS, without actually having any lesions? Guest guest
I seem to be in the minority here on our group. I have not had a major exacerbation. I was diagnosed after several years of bladder problems (pain, urgency and frequency—up to 40 times a day). Originally thought it was due to my 14 pounds of baby when I had my twins. I did have some numbness and tingling in the legs. Lots of fatigue but had always chocked that up to having 4 kids and a husband that was deployed for months at a time. I was finally sent to an urologist and he ordered a MRI of my brain and it showed 7 lesions. Evoked potentials also showed abnormalities. My spinal tap was negative. Diagnosed with IC and MS all in one afternoon. Luckily I have a great neuro here in Fort Worth and have been on a CRAB drug ever since. I am anxious to have another MRI and see if any new lesions have popped up. I am having vision problems lately and am seeing my neuro next month.
