Guest guest
n, I liked this message of yours. I have yet to receive any compensation from Tillamook when I wrote to them questioning their reasoning behind making the changes in their yogurt packaging. According to the website, the got rid of the plastic yogurt lids in order to become more environmentally friendly. I wrote to them explaining how I would save the cups and lids in which the yogurt was packed, in order to reuse them. As much as I dislike throwing out good plastic, there's no point in keeping the yogurt cup if I can't have the lid as well. Maybe I'm the only Tillamook yogurt consumer that likes to reuse the yogurt containers. But, a yogurt cup without a lid isn't much good for leftovers. When did I write to Tillamook? I don't really remember, but I think it was last Fall. At least before Christmas, anyway. Guest guest
n:What is the Swanson's Broth ad? If I have seen it I didn't notice it. You probably explained it previously but I know I have missed some emails. How do I know? Because I have seen email answers to posts I haven't received with the original email below the answer. Now I DO know you didn't actually ask me how I know I'm missing emails but I'm assuming you would :)loveSharon This email is a natural hand made product. The slight variations in spelling and grammar enhance its individual character and beauty and in no way are to be considered flaws or defects. The talents of the MS brain, heretofore not recognized! Today I received another letter in response to my third comment to 's Soup, which manufactures Swanson's Broth. I had written them AGAIN about their ridiculous adds about: turkeys, stuffing and soup "as good as Grandma," as opposed to " as good as Grandma MAKES," for example. So far, I have received two checks for $50.00 each and they did, temporarily, drop and change one of the advertisements, only to come out with another one, even more ridiculous than the first, and the third one is truly disgusting. I have discovered one thing, however: people with MS seem able to "get" the point and to understand what is just nuts about that add and its use of language--and all my other silly jokes as well. For example, my friend Edna, and my friend , each of who has MS each understands the absurdity of both license plates and of business SIGNS which we see while travelling, especially in Marin County, which, oddly, had the highest number of people with advanced degrees AND money in the entire state! For example, all three of us passed a vehicle last week which had a California license plate: 4UFO170. I cannot, on a family list even begin to tell you the interpretations which we each came up with. But it was my friend Edna, with rather severe MS, who noticed the Beauty Parlor sign which says: Peace, Love and Grilled Cheeses, a Hair Salon; we go on and on noticing wierd meanings and possible implications best left to the imagination. I wonder whether the Swanson folks will keep on funding my diatribes at them about their ads. Bulletins will be issued, as was said during many presidencies. Guest guest
O.K. Here is the whole scoop, about which I posted weeks ago to this' list: 1) Swanson ad appears telling you that with their broth you can make a turkey " as good as grandma. " (Really? I never actually ate Grandma.) 2) Swanson ad appears telling you that with their broth you can make stuffing " as good as grandma. " (WE never stuffed OUR Grandma!); 3) Swanson ad appears telling you that with their broth you can make Turkey soup or even Chicken soup " as good as grandma. " (Really?) The point was that no one makes food as good as Grandma--we did no consume nor eat Grandma. Our goal IS, however, often to make food as good as Grandma MAKES or even MADE. After the first ad, I wrote to them about all this and they actually did send me $50.00, and modified the first add, but then produced the other two. Someone at Swanson- does not get the irony of the language. However, most everyone at MSersLife DID get it, and a few hilarious post were posted back to me on line, and even more privately to me. The mere thought of Grandma all cut up in that giblet gravy may have really changed my mind about eating Turkey at all! Love to you, Sharon n, who enjoys humor wherever I can find it! > > > > > n: > > What is the Swanson's Broth ad? If I have seen it I didn't notice it. Guest guest
I was hoping I could find the Swanson TV ad posted on youtube.com but couldn't. Grammar in ads brought back a vague memory of a cigarette slogan from the 1960s. I believe the jingle went "Winston tastes good like a cigarette should." And, lots of people contacted them to say it was improper English. Anyone recall that ad campaign? --Mr. Dana F. Guest guest
Dana, I cannot see anything grammaticly wrong with the Winston add, other than the very remoted implication to the then very popular cigars and (perhaps) cannabis (mj). I remember the ad, though. Cheers, n; never smoked, never drank, did not use drugs, but a total coffee and tea fiend--heck even de-caffeinated coffee does it for me! Guest guest
n~ I'm just like you there. If you're going to by things in containers, they should have lids. I'm a container pack rat. I save the containers from the sourcream, Heartsmart, cottage cheese, ect.. I also save all the jars from pickles, olives, sauces, etc....And I go berserk if I go to get a container or jar to put left overs in and I can't find the lid. Tom has a nasty habit of throwing my containers and lids away. He knows I save them, but I can't get him to stop throwing them away. Then, he wants to know why I don't want his help in the kitchen. LOL I tell him to go sit down, it's my job. I'm really just trying to protect my containers, and also making sure everything gets put away in it's proper place. OOPS....Went a little OT. Sorry. <gg> Love and blesssings... ValDonna wrote: n,I liked this message of yours. Guest guest
n, I do remember your first posts but I haven't caught Swanson's more recent ad. Things like that ad do get under the skin, don't they? I often wonder "does no one else see that the wording is all wrong????". It does make me laugh. I have been bugged lately by the local news people. They try to make everything more urgent and exciting by saying "Happening NOW" or they say their report is "Live at the scene" and then they show a clearly closed business, or building with the reporter out front in the dark reporting on the event that happened hours before. One local reporter stands out in my memory. Several years ago there was a torso found in a dumpster. The reporter on the scene reported on the torso and said in his deepest, most self-important voice "the police suspect foul play." Really??? Foul play? The guy didn't cut off his own body parts and leap into the dumpster? Who would have ever suspected?!? We still laugh about that every time this reporter comes on TV. loveSharon This email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
Improper English is the norm now in the world of advertising. For everyone else here I was eating a Pepperidge Farm cookie, took a bite and then looked at the cookie in my hand and there was HALF of a bug. There was a beautiful red box tied up with a large red ribbon. I used that box for years for my special Christmas ornaments. I lost the lid several years ago but still use the box. Guest guest
ROFLMHO After the coroner's report, Bruce Dunbar (idiot reporter), also gave his very serious report... that they'd determined "it was homicide". Dang, who woulda thunk. Bruce Dunbar is the ONLY reporter I've ever, well, reported? LOL I was so mad at him I complained to every place associate with his news station. LOLOL Another favorite of mine was when one of the stations was doing a series on Arizona. The cute blond talked of years ago in Phoenix and "it's hard to imagine a time when Phoenix didn't need A/C". Uhm, they needed it, they just didn't HAVE it? LOLOL And the dinglehead who was covering a certain fire and was given a sleeping bag, along with all the other news crews folks, and she was so puzzled by this contraption. She marveled over it on the air as if she'd never before seen a sleeping bag. The zipper was too much for her. She couldn't figure it out. Guest guest
Some 15 years ago (or thereabout) a famous Swedish singer/song-writer killed himself through jumping out in front of a train. His family wished the circumstances, but not the fact, of the death to be kept out of the public eye at least for a few days, to give them som time to try to begin to come to terms with it on their own before having to answer the questions of everybody else, and so had asked the news reporters and journalists to go ahead and report on his death, but to please "sit on" the how and why for a few days. That was promised to them, but one news station was eager to use the information to get ahead of it's competitors with this juicy piece of news, while still somehow stick to their promise to the family, and so ended up reporting that the singer had "died quickly right in front of a train" (rather than the "died suddenly" or "died from an accident" phrases used by other news sources). In our family that "died quickly right in front of a train" is still sort of a hallmark of news reporter stupidity. I mean, yeah, if you find yourself right in front of a (moving) train, that is pretty much what's going to happen... And while some such deaths occur by accident, the lack of a statement saying so is a quite conclusive proof that what you are describing is suicide, so in the end of the day, they didn't even manage to not break their promise to the family. Then again, this was the news station that also broadcasted the "shocking" news that cancer of the prostate is more common in men than in women... And that referred to the sending of the former Swedish primary minister, Carl Bildt, as a peace mediator to the Balkan, as "the government has decided to dump Carl Bildt right in the middle of the Balkan war" (a creative yet effective way of getting rid of him?...). So perhaps one shouldn't be surprised... Well, at least they are a very entertaining news station... love/Reb> >> >> >> >> > n:> >> > What is the Swanson's Broth ad?
