Guest guest
I've been on HRT for 14 years. A fibroid was discovered on an ultrasound 4 years ago and was at that time no problem. But it has grown and in the last four months has been causing heavy bleeding. My GYN has switched me from Prempro to Premphase. Does anyone know anything about fibroids and HRT? Would the fibroid shrink if I went off HRT? Would the uterus -- which has expanded greatly -- also shrink? Or is the amount of hormone in HRT too small to affect it? I can't find anything on this subject, so your reply will be appreciated. --DD

Please read some of the links thoroughly. Questions for your Dr.- Does s/he routinely take CME's on HRT prescriptions? Is s/he up to date on all of the current studies? Did s/he apprise you of the risks and benefits of HRT? Can he cite studies that indicate HRT has no effect on symptomatic vs asymptomatic uterine leiomyoma? What alternatives could s/he recommend for you should you choose to go off the HRT? If you continue to stay on the HRT/experience continued fibroid growth, what will your Dr. recommend beyond watchful waiting? What kind of diagnostics? What kind of therapy beyond watchful waiting? Will s/he refer for minimally invasive/uterine sparing procedures (based on the diagnosics, ie us/or MRI) ie, hysteroscopic removal, UAE, myomectomy prior to a hysterectomy? Hope this helps. Guest guest
Just got your addendum. I'll be 59 this month. I've had an endometrial biopsy, which was normal. I'm not sure what endometrial hyperplasia is. I haven't been told I have it, but my GYN is notoriously close-mouthed. Thanks, DD. > Addendum to my post: > Sorry DD, > May I ask your age? > have you had an endometrial biopsy? > Any endometrial hyperplasia? >
