Guest guest
Dear friends, When Mira Nair started calling up movie stars in Mumbai over a year ago, everyone wanted to meet her. But when the actors heard she was looking for them to appear in a segment of the 80-minute long omnibus called AIDS JaaGo, the excuses started piling up very fast. This is the prologue to the movie directed by Mira Nair. Why is there a taboo still on people’s mind that AIDS is some sort of Horror? These actors endorse on products that they don’t use, they talk of social commitments, give big sermons at film festivities and then shrivel at the word of being involved in a movie? Disgusting ! This is a country which thinks movie stars were often fêted like gods. And see what the so called Gods have in their mind. The Government of India, the National AIDS Control Organization, the State AIDS Control Society and a hoard of other organizations work endlessly and painstakingly trying to bring about a change. And still we have the big creamy layer which keeps evading being a part of such issues. These creamy stars call themselves as socially conscious people, where in reality they shy away. Only very few stars have been humane in being a part of this social consciousness movement. Hats off to them. Let’s practice being a human first before we think we are a part of something big.
