Charlene, Welcome to the list. Yes, you can use plain yogurt as a starter. Make sure that it has no added flavorings. (That lets out vanilla Acitiva!) and that it has only the approved bacteria -- s. thermophilus, l. bulgaricus, and either l. acidophilus or l. caseii. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Hi Charlene, Activia contains Bifidus which is SCD illegal. I am unsure which of the plain Danon is a legal starter I hope someone else will jump in and help with this one. As a general rule of thumb we don't use any flavoring in yogurt starter whatsoever on the SCD. Those things contain many illegals. We can however make delicious SCD yogurt and after it is ready flavor it to our own liking using vanilla extract, fruits, honey etc. Delicious!
