Guest guest
All, I've been lurking here since my UAE in July 2000 (The IR was Ducksoo Kim, Quincy Hospital outside Boston). Some symptoms improved (no cramps!) but only slight reduction in size and now a big fibroid (10- 11 cm.) is back with a vengeance! Here's my current dilemma and I'd appreciate advice from all, Carla especially as you know the practitioner. The big fibroid leans on my bladder, makes for 48 hours of heavy heavy bleeding each cycle, and over the past 6 months has made intercourse very uncomfortable. I now live in L.A. and after much trial and error am seeing Dr. in Santa , as highly recommended by some on this list and also by a friend here. Because of the fibroid's location and position--it is stretching the uterine wall to a degree of thinness that no test seems able to demonstrate--Dr. says he can try an abdominal myo but can't promise it won't end up as a hysterectomy because he has no idea what kind of shape the uterine wall, or whatever's left of it, will be in after he's done removing the fibroid. That said, he told me he's only ended up doing a hyst twice under analogous circumstances, and he has a reputation as a very skillful myomectomy guy. What do I do? Waiting is not an option, really; I'm 43 and don't expect to enter menopause for another 10 years. The painful intercourse is driving me (and my sweetie) nuts. I'd like to keep my uterus, although I don't want to have children, but losing it may be a realistic option, which freaks me out somewhat. I'd appreciate any thoughts on how to proceed, especially from anyone who's faced this problem. Thanks -- Beth
