According to his past writings there have not been any kids that did well

with implants. Some on other lists have said that maybe we should give him

" good stories " to work with but I don't trust him to give accurate

interpretation of what is said. He isn't the kind of person that present

facts.

You should know that Dr. Bienstock (who is not an MD, by the way...) is

very anti-implant. He has asked for this kind of " essay " before, and has

never published anything. He's very anti-AV, and contends that prelingually

deaf kids will never learn to speak with cochlear implants.

I'd advise caution in replying to him. I've run into him a couple of times

on newsgroups, where he's told me things like, " Those auditory verbal

people think they can teach deaf kids to hear, " and " AG Bell disagrees with

the auditory verbal method, because AG Bell allows lipreading. "

The guy is really out of touch with reality, but has, in the past, turned

people's words around to make oralism seem stupid, cruel, and/or

ineffective. Being pro-Deaf is one thing, but being ANTI something is a

whole new ballgame.

That would be difficult, since Dr. Berlin is an audiologist and not an

implant surgeon...?

Thanks for the response to this. I am glad that other people here knew more

about this person than I did.
