Guest guest
We're in Thailand and are wondering if the small slender bananas here are SCD safe. They taste sweeter when ripe than the kind we usually find in the US. Here's a picture of what we are talking about. They may be imported in to the US (maybe Asian food stores or some supermarkets). http://www.realthairecipes.com/articles/bananas (the first picture) We tried the fat little ones, like the ones in the second picture, but even when the skin has a lot of black areas, they are still firm and hard to mash. They didn't work for us (to say the least!). Now we're looking for advice before trying the skinny little ones. Anyone know if they are safe when speckled, easy to mash, and no green on the tips? Guest guest
I used to live in South America in the tropics, and we had such a variety of bananas there! I miss them! However, I'm almost sure I read that you cannot eat any of the bananas that are little in size while on SCD. I remember reading that and thinking how sad, but for me really not that sad since I now live in Iowa and get no variety of banana types at all. I don't have time to look up where I read that, but I only ever read the book (BTVC), the website www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info, and the website www.pecanbread.com, so the reference to small bananas being illegal must be in one of those places. Guest guest
Ann, THANK YOU for the help!! We just had some little bananas this morning and were trying to figure out why we were feeling terrible today! We'll stick with the one that look the same as the ones in the US. We'll check the sites you mentioned and see if we can find anything more. We've been having banana pancakes almost every day for over a week and knew something was not right. Thanks again for sharing what you remember. Better to be safe than sorry! We'll miss those tasty little bananas, but it's better than missing out on health! A small sacrifice. Thanks!
