Guest guest
Rationality behind CAT II regimen in Relapse TB Cases? CAT II treatment in Relapse TB cases under RNTCP might not be very logical. Patients who have failed to respond CAT I or CAT III or Relapse are those who in all probability have MDR TB- are subjected to CAT II treatment regimen. This regimen is likely to fail- a poor way to treat MDR TB and a huge waste of resources that may also serve to amplify the resistance. Failures of this additional 8 months of treatment are largely finally labelled MDR (majority without microbiological proof). This needs to be reviewed urgently and AFB culture and sensitivity testing facility is urgently required in RNTCP setup before we switch these cases for CAT II treatment.
