Guest guest
Yes, rocking is also self-stimming. Both of my kids did this. My response was always to pick them up and rock them. My son even did it in his sleep. He would get up on his hands and knees and go at it. The entire bed would shake. I didn't think he would ever stop. If I just placed my hand on his back he would stop and lie back down. He did it in his sleep long after he stopped doing it awake. I used to worry about what his wife would think some day. He hasn't done it even in sleep now since he was ten years old. Barb Lily rocks, also since she was about 5 months old. And it seems like its almost a physical need she has. At first , we thought she was relieving growth pains, which it actually says in some developmental books. She goes through phases of having to do it, then not doing it for a few months. She gets on the floor with her legs splayed out to her sides and rocks, in her own world. I usually have to pick her up to get her to stop. She usualy doesn't do it if there is a lot of activity around or she is busy and engrossed in another activity. Is this self-stimming too? (I know, asking for an arm-chair diagnosis here, just looking for any input!)
Guest guest
I notice we're using " rocking " to mean very different things. The rocking my does is a side to side motion of her head, like shaking your head " NO " very vigorously. Not that I think it's something significant, just interesting.
