Ganeshpur, Makhauda, Chhawni Bazar, Chando Tal, Barah, Bhadeshwar Nath, Paida and and Agauna are places of tourist interest. [http://basti.nic.in/Default.htm] On December 1. under the leadership of the Global Science Academy (GSA), U.P. India, with the theme " Leadership (Stop AIDS Keep Promises) " , has organized several events to commemorate the World AIDS Day 2007. To enhance solidarity within the global response to AIDS by working through a united effort, the Academy's commemoration taken place at Basti city, Tamkuhi Road (Kushinagar district) and in Harraiya tehsil of Basti district. People from various fields and NGOs gave their lectures on the pandemic at GSA during a seminar. Being member of World AIDS Campaign who determine the World AIDS Day theme for commemoration around the globe, Dr. Anil Pratap Singh Secretary GSA said that this Day is considered one of the most important events on the HIV/AIDS calendar and the theme `leadership' ensure leaders and decision makers deliver on their promises on AIDS. He further said that expanding treatment programmes was the need of hour but, at the same time, it was also essential to do all possible efforts to develop a vaccine. Showing his concern the Guest of honor Dr. Hari Praksh Chaudhary said that leadership makes or breaks the response against AIDS and the gesture of political commitment regarding Universal Access to Treatment, Care, Support and Prevention services by 2010 was the matter of appreciation. Mr. R.R.Verma of Public Works Department said that there was scope to scale-up ant-AIDS efforts in rural India which consisted 70% of the demography. The commemoration of GSA was well supported by enthusiastic participation of NGOs including Society of Rural Youth & Communities, Jan Bahuuddeshiya Seva Samiti, Global Institute of Sciences and others. Others those who expressed their views on the occasion were Er. B.G. Srivastava, Ms. Seema Singh, Mr. S.N. Asthana, Mr. S.K. Verma, Mr. Nabiullah Siddiqui, Mr. Utpal, Mr. O.P.Singh, Mr. Sanjai, Km. Vibha Singh, Mr. Dhruvendra Kumar, Ms. Usha, Dr. S.L. Singh and many others. A rally of youngsters and school children and in collaboration with Global Institute of Sciences at 8.00 am on December 01, 2007 for a distance of 1.5 km also convened at Tamkuhi Road in Kushinagar district being one of the hot-spot in terms of HIV infection. Distribution of leaflets in Hindi and English on HIV/AIDS – how they can contribute to curb the spread of HIV infection was also held. Further, best presentation prize on " My dream-an AIDS free World " was given to Mr. S.K. Verma. A documentary film " Subah hone tak " produced by Chander Khanna for State AIDS Control Society screened at GSA during commemoration in the view to increase HIV/AIDS awareness amongst gathered people. Villagers including children participated in the observance of the day at Harraiya. On the occasion, the Dr. Anil Pratap Singh of the GSA, in a live broadcast (telephonically) with Voice of America (VOA), Washington DC, USA also responded, as an expert, to the queries of individuals on the national efforts being taken by government and civil societies in context of HIV/AIDS.
