Guest guest
Dear all, Re: /message/9105 This is inresponse to the article on 'Seperate classes for boys and girls on sex education'. On number of occasions, it has been my personal experience that we can do justice to the attempt to create awareness on HIV/AIDS, and also while conducting Adolescent Education Programs in the schools if we take the classes seperately even in the co-education schools. A Sarpanch of a Raigad village allowed my talk with the shcool students only after confirming that I would be taking seperate classes. I obviously, gave due importance to the villagers opinion. The kind of questions and queries raised by both the boys' and girls' groups made me realise that the decision of conducting seperate classes was good. They had number of doubts about their physical, emotional changes happening in the recent past i.e. puberty related issues. When I was with the girls group, our team of outreach workers, medical social workers and the counselor gave the boys' group some simple games to play which they had obtained from MSACS giving information on HIV-AIDS. I am sure there will be a lot of relief to number of Indian parents who do want their children to get proper scientific information on the subject but at the same time, are very uncomfortable at the thought of subjecting them to such information in common groups. Thanks Dr. Jolly for the information. Dr. Divya Dr. Divya Mithel e-mail: <d_mithel@...>
Guest guest
Dear all, Re: /message/9105 I read Dr. Divya's response related to separate classes for boys and girls on sex education. Related to this issue, I would like to share my experience conducting classes with the students from VIII to X STD in Shirur taluka, Pune. When I approach to Head master to taking classes on sex education with their students, He strictly denied doing this. He is very anxious about this issue. When I convinced him the importance of the related issue and need of the education to these children, slightly he does agree but separate classes with the boys and girls. I also felt comfortable to conduct classes separately because rural girls and boys have had strong burden from the teachers and itself also. Thanks Dr. Divya and your team Regards Mr. Bhanudas Suryawanshi Pune e-mail: <bhanudas.suryawanshi@...>
Guest guest
Dear friends, Re: /message/9105 I have been following this discussion with interest. It is my experience too that Sex Education in communities and schools is usually best if delivered for boys and girls separately. However in creating this divide we should not stop at teaching only girls about menstruation and only boys about masturbation. Boys if they have to grow up to be sensitive partners and fathers need to know all about what growing up is for a girl too.
