Keep posting and maybe I can get your feed back and get a hint as to what could cause this pain and swelling.
Guest guest
It could be lymphedema http://www.lymphedemapeople.com/thesite/leg_lymphedema.htm Or it could be a blod clot, or cellulitis http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/tc/cellulitis-topic-overview In my experience not many Doctors are familiar with non cancer lymphedema so you might want to explore that. If you catch it in the early stage it can be managed with not too much trouble. My Lymphedema legs are very painful, elevating them or just having them up helps the pain, the reason for the pain isn't fully understood but the excess lymph fluid pushes against muscle, nerve, skin and that can lead to the pain, though others with lymphedema have very little to no pain. Gentle hugs to you, hope you get the help you need. Peace,
Guest guest
Dear Alda: I've been having a similar problem for years. I don't have much swelling, but my right leg hurts all down the outside so bad almost every night. It didn't seem to be related to my hip or any of the arthritis issues that I have, but it would wake me up all the time. When it's flaring I can't lay on it or away from it. Just misery. My pain meds don't touch this pain, either. It was just recently since I've lived here in PA that I finally found the answer. With all my other spinal and joint issues, instead of an orthorpedic doctor, I was sent to a neurosurgeon to see if anything could be done about my degenerative disc disease and bulging or herniated discs. He sent me to have a test called and EMG that tests for nerve damage. Even though it isn't the most pleasant test, it told me more than any test I've had for years. I learned that I have nerve damage from an old herniated disc that I had between L5 and S1 (right at the sciatic) for about 10 years. Even though the damage is old, it is what causes that pain that goes down my leg. Also learned that I have early peripheral neuropathy which also causes all kinds of leg pain. Maybe you could get your doc to refer you to a neurologist/neurosurgeon to see if you can get some tests to determine what is causing this pain. Have you had a spinal MRI or and MRI of the hip or leg on that side? I hope you are able to find an answer. I know it can be so frustrating. Sometimes even if there isn't a solution, just knowing what is causing the pain can be some relief. - PA I have a swollen leg and lots of pain in it. Guest guest
, I am seeing a pain doctor next week on Thursday. I am hoping he will have the tests done. I have had pain in back and leg before but this is the worst it has hurt. I had a test don't know if it was an EMG but I have been told I have nerve damage. I lost bladder and bowel control. I have an colostomy and have to either wear a leg bag or catheterize for my bladder. I hate all of this just wish I could have these repaired but I don't think there is anything to do for the damaged nerves. I had a spinal tumor and damage was done when it was removed. It grow on the nerves at the base of my spine and caused the damage. > - PA wrote: Dear Alda: He sent me to have a test called and EMG that tests for nerve damage.
