Dear Forum,

We all got the gift of Dusshera from Hindustan times. Every year Ram kills the

mighty Ravana but he continues to be alive and spreading among the masses. Well

I am referring to the news article of Hindustan times, Mumbai on 0ctober 21,

2007, on Page 6 “iPill catches teenagers’ fancy”.

It seems what we want to achieve is not clear to the government, development

professionals in HIV prevention. On the one hand condom is promoted extensively

while on the other hand more prominent advertisement continues to throng the

private channels which directly or indirectly are saying “having multiple

partners or unsafe sex is alright we have got the iPill for you”.

My wife asked me why I am angry and then I told her the truth. My daughter is

nine years old and 6 years down the line or before she will have access to all

the information from the mass media, peers and internet. One day when you will

discover iPill from her school bag you will ask me what “Sanskar(Values)” we

have given her and then none of us will be able to find the answers as the media

has made it a fad like the western countries; if you are a virgin, you are a

baby and she would want to be independent, enjoy her life but because she is not

happy with the messy condom, has decided to use the iPill,

which will leading to consious unsafe sex .

Yes this will lead to a generation gap between us and today we shall be prepared

to see our young children dying in front of our eyes in the days to come. Both

of us shivered in fear and said together “no this cannot happen to us or our

children”.

Since the first case of HIV was documented in India, till date the masses

continue to say the same. “no this cannot happen to me or my children.”

Then another thought came in my mind, to destroy a country this is the easiest

thing to do. Destroy the traditional value system in the name of development,

and promote values through which the young who are the educated and will be the

decision makers of tomorrow gets diseased and effected. This needs to be done

for 10 years continuously and the next generation after the decade will be with

less energy. The devide between the urban and the rural will widen and a new

class war in the name of caste, religion, resource ownership will continue.

Off course for the new diseases happening because of the indiscriminate uses of

drugs will lead to development of new drugs and vaccines and the rich companies

will become rich while the poor will become poor.

One of my senior friend was sharing the same thing has happened in agriculture.

All the professionals with advanced degrees had promoted for chemical based

fertilizers and pesticides and when the chemicals have reached the water tables,

the industry for chemicals fertilizers, pesticides and bottled water has boomed,

while the same professionals have now converted themselves to bio-farming

experts and talks of compost, manures, Neem and Gomutra.

Well this is the start of the week so to keep our self positive let us recite

this mantra 101 times “this is not going to happen, this is not going to affect

me. My family and my children are above all this”.

Happy Dusshera

Regards,

Sanjeev Jain
