Guest guest
When I asked the nuc med doc about my dogs/cats, he said that they don't worry about it because as of yet animals can't hire a lawyer and sue...I told him that I'm a paralegal and there's a first time for everything! He obviously was not an animal person. I took the same precautions with my dogs and cats that I did with people, and I was especially careful around my two smaller dogs. They didn't understand why I wouldn't go near them and were all out of sorts which made me feel awful, but I would never do anything that would put them at any kind of risk - they're my babies! - Gayle North Salem, NY TT 1990 RAI (125) 3/15/02 > That is too outragious! Guest guest
That is too outragious! I also had a doctor (thankfully not my oncologist) tell me that my schnauzers (fur-babies) wouldn't mind being radioactive and that he (too) didn't really care for animals! My oncologist, however, did tell me to use the same precautions I would use for a human their size so I'm using the precautions I would use for small children. Hope that helps and I feel sorry for these doctors (people) who don't have the love of a fur-person in their life (how sad)! Good luck! My Endo isn't a dog person but is a cat person. He indicated that no one has done detailed studies of the effects of RAI on pets, but that since he knows that RAI is used to ablate the thyroid of cats, that i should consider treating my cats as I would a human child and use the same level of precautions. Since my RAI we have also gotten a dog, and I figure what works for the cats would work for the dog, and so I stay away from her after any scanning dose for 24 hours, and should I ever have to have RAI again, she'd get the same precautions as any human kid would.... 5-7 days depending on my gieger counter readings... barb
