Thanks for the FO/EO class 101! I never understood the difference, and now I do! One more question....From what I have been reading, are FO's more likely to cause 'seizing'? ...who is gathering an education before she attempts CP..... Iknow what the letters mean, >but what is the difference between the oils? and why is one better than the >others? An FO can be a combination of many different chemicals and other ingredients, and, I've heard, may contain little tiny amounts of real EO's, but might not. I think an FO is someone's, probably a chemist's, concoction, of what he or she might consider a nice smell. In other words, it's not a naturally occuring smell, or essence. On the other hand, an EO IS the true essence of the plant it's derived from. It's the actual byproduct of that plant's metabolism, and from my reading, it seems as if most EO's are obtained through steam distillation, and have no artifical ingredients. They are considered 100% natural. If you use FO's, you can't label your soap as being 100% natural. I've used both EO's and FO's and love 'em both, although, once your nose gets used to smelling both, you can tell a difference between the real thing, and the concocted thing, especially when you use an FO that was designed to smell like a real EO. Really, up to this point in my experience, most people don't really care whether I've used an EO or an FO.......they just go by how much they like that particular fragrance, and, I don't think one is any better than the other......just depends on your ultimate goal.....totally natural fragrance, or, a not so natural fragrance, but still smells good!!!
