Guest guest
Can anyone help me with my latest soap question. I did my 11th batch of cp soap and used olive, coconut, palm, sunflower and almond in the base. I used sweet cakes china rain which is supposed to turn soap purple. I used a little less china rain than I was supposed to and also added 1 part lavender breeze to 4 parts china rain. My question is in the colouring. I heard that china rain turned cp soap purple but I was worried it would be a dull purple as I read that can happen on a list. So I added a tiny amount (.45 cc) of FD & C blue # l to the batch to try and add more purple. (FD & C blue makes cp soap purple). I used the dyes instead of pigments as I bought samples of both (dye and pigments) and wanted to try and see what colour the dye would make my soap. Anyway, I added the FC & C blue #1 to 4 oz of slightly warm castor oil (to super fat) and mixed the dye in the oil to try and dissolve. Then I added it to my traced soap. All looked fine and when I poured into my mold it was a nice even cream colour. I knew it would change colour but when I unmolded it today it was lavender colour with dark purple speckles. Does anyone know why it speckled?? The soap looks GREAT but I did not plan this and I am wondering how to control this in the future in case I do or do not want this again. Was it mixing the dye in the castor that did it or do dyes do this? Any thoughts??? -- From the desk of Augie and Bella Latte Farms augie@... Guest guest
Woa! Cool!! I love the sound of that soap! I'm sorry, I don't have a clue as to why it did that (mixing problems, maybe?). It's the only thing I can think of. But it sounds so neat, I'd only worry about replicating it! =o) ~ Simply Soap & Sundries ~ Minnesota ..:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:.
