Guest guest
Dear forum, Re: Threat of global AIDS epidemic not yet over. Rejoinder from UNAIDS/WHO: /message/8890 Targettting interventions to special groups further comaprtmentalises the exisiting vertical programmes. Most of the women PLHA are unuspecting housewives infected from their partners and having low access to information and tagetting interventions to high risk groups will be futile. We need to spend on awareness in order to create an enabling environment for discussion of issues related to HIV/AIDS -If society treats PLHA with fear and distrust- there will be no diclosure- and this will fuel the epidemic..- Moreover targetting high prevalence areas denies us a opportunity to prevent emergence of larger peidemics in areas where prevalence is low now. We should think and plan on a larger perspective and not on immediate short term gains. Rajesh Sood. e-mail: <drrksood@...>
