Guest guest
Have you had your thyroid function tested recently? If not, maybe you should. Thyroid deficiency (hypothyroid) can often cause problems like yours...and often people with diabetes are also hypothyroid. Guest guest
Hi folks, Thanks to all who answered my questions. The answers were all helpful and all of you were very positive and encouraging. I had NO IDEA that Actos can cause so much weight gain (see below). A follow-up question: My health has not been good at all for the past year. I feel very weak and tired and my immunity is low. This is not due to blood sugar being high or low because it is under good control. But I have begun to wonder if the two medicines I am taking, Glucophage and Actos, may be playing a roll in my ill health. I would like to hear from anyone who has had any experience with these two medicines - particularly anyone who has had negative side effects. Thanks again to everyone who answered previously and thanks for anyone who answers this one. Best wishes to all, Jim --- beeboppah wrote: > I have gained 60 pounds on ACTOS. I also had a major problem with my gums swelling. Kathy
Guest guest
Yes, I have had problems from both of these meds! I had diarrhea for 1-? years when I was taking Glucaphage. I also landed in the emergency room with congestive heart failure 2 times while I was taking Actos. It made my feet, ankles, and legs swell so big I could hardly walk. Now, since my liver problem (which was brought on by Actos, Lipitor, and Plavix, I'm only on Insulin. Oh, BTW, I lost 18 lbs. When they took me off of those meds. Well.maybe part of it was I refused to eat most of the hospital food when I had the surgery on my neck. I kept saying " I can't eat bread, potatoes, pasta, etc. but they just kept bringing them even though the dietician came to my room almost every day and told them not to put those things on my tray. It's a losing battle. Tootie Re: Follow-up question on medicines " feel very weak and tired and my immunity is low. This is not due to blood sugar being high or low because it is under good control. Guest guest
Hi Tootie Hank and I have been taking Actos since Dec and have had good results with no complications. Just goes to show doctors and scientists have a lot to learn about the body chemistry. Carolyn Type 2, Actos & Insulin occasionally
Guest guest
I didn't have liver problems before I started taking Glucophage, but the doctor assures me it " couldn't me from the Glucophage " , as the amount I was taking was so small. I still think it was, though. At any rate, it stopped working, and he put me on Amaryl, which also stopped working. Then, he put me on a combination of the two in one pill -- Glucovance -- which didn't work either, that I could see. It made me feel awful -- terrible headaches, so I got off of it myself. My blood sugar is going down steadily with a low carb diet. Sandy But I have begun to wonder if the two medicines I am taking, Glucophage and Actos, may be playing a roll in my ill health.
